]Hey I have in hertited a 55 gallon Tank containing 13 angel fish
Some quite young other large and hearty
I am familiar with water changes and cleaning and stuff
Just scared they will die when i ttry to move them
Ive looked for hints and stuff on line and came up with a few

ive seen the slow drip system when my dad got new fish so i kinda understand
THE LIVE PLANTS HAVE GOTTEN HUGE AND FULL OF ALGAE
iS IT OK IF I SCRUB THE ALGAE OFF THE PLANTS??

please help me
these fish were everything to my dad I would hate to move them and have them die

also what are some good websites for orderind inexpensive supplies thanks alot Cheriberry

i just moved 3 tanks without one casualty....one tank included a fully stocked, and planted 55 gallon....it is important to save as much water as possible..i grabbed a bunch of 5 gallon pails from restaurants........i kept almost half of my water....VERY IMPORTANT. i found it best to put the fish in the buckets of water with the live plants on top, to reduce stress. then i also bought a spliter so i could run air tubes in my buckets...........you want to do this whole procedure as fast as possible.....there is a pinned topic in the forum on moving fish tanks. this is where i got my info, and didnt lose one fish...im just a little worried on how many fish you have in that tank....angel fish grow quite large, and i would look into a larger tank or dividing them between a few tanks

Thanks alot for youre help i will try to find the thread on moving fish thanks again

Make sure you dont scrub everything when you move it. As for the plants, I have heard you can dip them in very very mild bleach water. Keep the filter media, and gravel in some tank water, to keep the good bacteria alive.

I am very sorry for your loss. It is wonderful that you are adopting his fishies :).

I'm sorry to read of your fathers passing.
I hope that you find solace in the many happy memories you have of him.

you can use a bleach dip for the plants to kill the algea, but be very through when rinsing the plants before adding them back to the tank. The formula is 1 part bleach to 20 parts water (IE 5ml bleach in 100ml water), 2 to 3 minute soak.
rinse under running water for at least 1 minute. then soak in a bucket of water for 5mins.
if the plant is healthy it should survive this treatment, if it is not then the bleach dip wil more than likely kill it.

As for ordering on-line, that all depends on where you live and what you are after.

Sorry to hear about your loss. I hope you are doing well in the recovery. Also, welcome to the forum. :hi:

This may be the most important advice you can get. As long as the filter stays wet, you shouldn't lose your bacteria colony and so the tank will still be in good shape when you set it back up. Once you get to the new location, try to set the filter/filters up in some of the old tank water to start them running again while you are setting the tank up.

thanks alot to all of the replys....appreciate the help

Online is definitely the way to go for hardware as long as you have a few days to wait on delivery. Try Big Al's or Pet Solutions. I have bought from both of them and they both have good prices and service. If you plan to buy a lot over time, Big Al's does have a points program where you get a point for each dollar you spend toward future purchases(double on Wednesday!!!). If you are in a hurry, Petsmart stores will match the online prices from their website. Just go to Petsmart's website, find the product, print out the page and take it to the store. Just tell them when you check out and they will ring it up at the online price.

Im not sure if im even posting correctly here
Very new to this board.ive had alot of help here and I thank you all
I cant wait to move the tank and take pics

The tank has been unattended (house is empty) for 2+weeks so my sister and i take turns on feeding (sjhe has no clue) and we seem to be keeping them somewhat happy

The problem with the algae on plants was due to me keeping lights on 24/7
I thought the fish would be with the light on better than leaving in the dark.
So now the plants are pretty skanky
thanks all for telling me how to fix that problem....appreciate it !! :D
ummm so i once i get the tank settled and plants cleaned up I hope to ost here and became a part of this fish family

Thank god I did all the maintenance to the tank thereofre I have somewhat of a clue....
about the algae Im getting a timer to time the lighting until I move the tank

Thanks again Cheriberry

i will be bringing the tank home to my house after the middle of November.
Im going to AZ soon and when I get back ill move thae tank ...ill prolly do fine thanks to all of you here and the help I recieved
