in the ten gallon you could put in some cardinals or neons maybedwarf gouramis they don't get to big i asume you want diffrent fish not just common ones like guppies etc some killis don't require a big space zebra danios look good in a shoal harlequins black neons corydoras bristlnose coolie loachkribensis choose a few at a time you coudn't have all of these there would'nt be space hope it looks pretty

Hi there and welcome to the forum,

I’m pleased to say you’ve made the best possible start to fish keeping in that you’ve come to research before adding fish! Now I will come on to which fish to choose, but there’s some other stuff you should know and do first before thinking too much about fish. It takes a couple of weeks to properly prepare a tank for fish so you have plenty of time to research while you are cycling the tank.

If you have a read of the link in my sig ‘step by step guide to setting up an aquarium’ this will help you out loads, also make sure you read and follow the ‘fishless cycling’ link :good:

As the poster above said, we need to know what size tanks you are talking about, is the ‘h’ a type-o? If you can give us the dimensions of the tank and the volume of water it holds then we can advise on suitable fish.

You can keep angels, swords and danio’s together quite happily, for the angels you need a tank at least 18” tall and around 30 US Gallons, if you have both male and female swordtails then they will breed and have fry, but the angels will eat the babies! Now this is not necessarily a bad thing, but just something to be aware of. Each female swordtail will produce something like 20 babies every month, if you keep all these babies then the tanks gonna get full very very quickly, and then the babies will also start breeding, so you can soon do the maths and see how it may be best to leave the babies to natural selection (i.e. only the strongest will survive)

Some typical ‘cleaner’ fish are ottos, amino shrimp and bristlenose plecs, there are others but it will depend on the size of the tank what is suitable.

i set up a shrimp (10g) recently and my lfs said that amino shrimp would eat my plants but i love the shimp i got as in a 10g u can observe them closely (2x bamboo shrimp
2x rhino shrimp
pos cherry shrimp

hope i helped

Amano shrimp are also very useful. i have 6 in my 120ltr tank and they 'hoover' any food on the bottom and any pieces of algae. (not that i have any at the moment) :) Hope that helped!.
