Hey all,

i've been looking at getting a tank for a while, just trying to read up as much as possible

i'm thinking maybe a 60 litre (15 gallon) rectangular tank (was looking at biorb, but thought it was a bit gimicky)

what i really want is a few small usual beginner fish and small crabs at the bottom, i've only seen one species of tropical freshwater crabs, are there many more? there are a lot of marine crabs, how hard is it to keep marine?? i know nothing of this, it cant be anywhere near as simple as adding aquarium salt to freshwater surely?

in summary:

1) i want crabs
2) do i have to go marine (cant be advisable to a newbie can it??)
3) is marine difficult!?

I suggest you pose your question to the Marine chit chat section. As a newbie to fish, I'm sure you can go marine to start off with - but you'll have to do a lot of reading and be prepared to invest a lot more money and time than with freshwater.

If you have only the space for a 60 ltr I would suggest you stick with freshwater for the time being: marine small tanks (known as nanos) are notoriously difficult to maintain and you cannot fit a lot in there.

Not sure what the situation are with freshwater crabs, but personally wouldn't keep anything that's got claws in with fish. There are several nice species of shrimps that go fine with fish.
