Hi, I have only had the tank for about 6 months.

One of my Female Fighter's look rather large (swollen) around her belly. Is she pregnant or getting ready to mate? Does anyone know?

If she is pregnant do I put her in the Breeding Tank?

Thanks. :good:

A female will always produce eggs but she won't be ready to mate until she is shown a male and then she will show vertical stripes on her body to show that she is receptive.

If she is really really chubby then there may be one of two issues going on -

1. she is over fed - cut back on her feeds cause if you do want to breed her sometime the male won't be able to wrap her and sqeeze the eggs out.

2. she may have an intestinal problem - cut back on her feed and treat her appropriately with medication.

Give her a starve day and see how she goes on, if she is perky and swimming around with no problems then you can feed her a small dose of food the next day, a day without food won't hurt her.

Right cool thanks, we only noticed today I think we would have yesterday, so think maybe she culd be over fed. I normally do a starve day once a week (is that ok?)

If she is still the same in a couple of days what should I do? :good:

Males and females SHOULD NOT be kept together for any reason other than breeding, which you obviously aren't trying to do (at least I hope so since it seems you haven't done any research). I know they may have been okay up until now, but something could happen in the future. You should remove the male and put him in his own 1 gallon + tank.

How big is the tank they are all in?

And your female is probably just full of eggs, which is normal.
