Heres the problem, i found 2 dead fish in my main community tank 2 days ago, yesterday when i got up i found another 5 & tonight i lost another 2 and i have a cory that looks a little worse for wear...

The problem is i cant diagnose what the cause is... naturally i checked my water stats, but they were fine. I look after my fish well in my opinion, regular water changes twice a week, watch them closely quite a bit, in fact its sad how much time i spend looking at my fish :S

I cant seem to work out what the cause is though... the only visible signs of the cory being sick is that hes sitting at the bottom of the tank (not unusual i hear you say) but hes not moving much and looks like his eye rims are slightly cloudy (almost as though hes getting a clouded cornea from old age). Its the only fish i have visibly seen a sign that hes a little sick... all the others that died in the last 24hrs or so have been healthy and swimming round fine then dead by morning !!!

There is one more fish that has symptoms of something but i cant work out what and thats one of my neons... the red part of his body seems to have taken on a whiteish colour and the reds slowly fading away. Ive not seen this in any other fish though.

Does anyone have any ideas what this may be... ive tried to be as specific as possible about what i can see in the tank but if you wanna ask further Q's please feel free...

If anyones got any idea it would be a great help as im concerned im going to lose the whole tank to whatever this is unless it can be treated (but with what!!!)

The NTD sounds like what the neon had... its dead now and removed from tank :( the cory is also dead :( so far i dont see any other fish behaving abnormally.

The neon had a bleached out colour and it looked more of a solid white than transparent (a bit like the cysts explained in the link you gave)... doesnt seem like i can do anything to prevent it as its got no cure, just remove any suspect fish i guess :(

Definitely not columnaris as i lost a Sajica to that before and it looks a lot different (bit like cotton wool on the outside of the fish like the Betta in that picture from your link). It was you who identified it that time too after i posted that problem here.

Thanks again.

If you look at the fish's gills, they aren't red and inflamed are they? Are they breathing fast? That would maybe be a more subtle symptom that may be harder to catch.

Other than that, with the fish suddenly dying and good water quality readings, is there any chance something could have gotten into the water? When was your last water change?

Other than the 50% i did yesterday the last one was a 25% on Wednesday, im quite good with water changes and make sure i do them at least once a week if not more...

No more deaths in the last 12 hrs or so... All the fish seem healthy and dont look either stressed or unwell at all, no inflamed areas or anything like that either.

I'll just have to wait and see how it goes i guess.

R.I.P. good luck had ntd and it's awful.

As for the cloudy eye, as long as your water stats are fine and you are positive it is cloudy eye then i would treat the tank with a watered down dose of primafix(treats internal and external bacterial infections plus fungal ones, cloudy eye tends to be bacterial in cause when water quality is not a problem, bacterial infections can also kill quite rapidly) and melafix(general antibiotic, good at treating things like cloudy eye when used with other meds) and some stress coat(will help boost the strength of the fish natural protective slime layer) :) .
