i have ick ,ich, or whitespot, knwon as 1 of those 3 or all to some, how do i clear? just started, i know it comes from stress, all my water levels are fine, wats wrong? only the nitrate is way to high (past 160)
PLEASE HELP FAST!

If your nitrates are that high need to look at size of tank in gallons or litres, plus how many fish and which type.
You will need a whitespot med if fish look like they been sprinkled in salt, increase temp to 30, increase aeration alot as the med and high temp will reduce 02 in the water, remove black carbon from filter if you use it.
Also read instruction on the med as scaless fish can't handle parasite meds to well.

160 is pretty high. are you doing water changes regularly?

THAT WAS WORST TIME FOR INTERNET TO CUT OFF!!!!!!

but anyhow its 55 gallon USA the ick just came, and i do atleast 1 water change a week if i dont forget

i have 2 blue gourami 1 gold 1 rosy barb 4 gold barbs and 4 occo something catfish ( they clean the tank , very small)

Hi,

Had this problem aswell.

Get any Whitespot med that is not harmfull to plants and bacteria.

1st do a 40% water change to remove most of the free swimming parasites.

Add the medacine as described on the bottle and turn temp up to 28 and add more oxygen.

Switch off the light and trie and cover the tank with a blanket for at least 24 hours.

Monitor the fish closley to see if spots are falling off.Remember that the fish will have parasites stuck on them that are young and which you will not be able to see with the naked eye so its normal for the whitespots to become more and then decline.

When all parasits have fallen off do a second dosage of meds.

Took me about 2 weeks to get rid of it.

Hope this helped!

Your high nitrates are not down to being overstocked then, need to look at your maintainance of the tank, do you do gravel vac or sand vacs, plus when did you lat maintain the filter.

The 4 fish you mentioned (occos) are probably ottos which are very prone to whitespot. I added two ottos to my tank that developed whitespot days after adding them (luckily I caught it early and none of my other fish showed any symptoms). I treated the tank with Waterlife Protozin (half dose because of the ottos and a royal plec in the tank) and it cleared up after 1 course but you must make sure your water stats are all good as poor water quality will stress the fish and this seems to keep the cycle going.
