I have three pakastani loaches that I have had in my community tank for about 5 weeks now with no problems. Today I have noticed that most of my guppies have had their tails nipped and one has almost lost his altogether! The only fish I have seen chase the guppies are these loaches and one in particular (the biggest one) is a right ***** to everyone in my tank recently! Do you think this loach could be pregnant? Has anyone else noticed aggression in these loaches? Any advice?

pakistani loaches are quite playful at times.

How many gallons or litres is the tank, as you have alot of fish in there, plus also can you post stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

Juwel Rekord 120 according to her profile..

Thanks,
I can see why you have having promblems then the tank is overstocked and making the fish become aggressive.
The clown loaches will get stressed in that small tank, they need at least a 75gal usually more.
I would maybe ask the lfs if they will take some fish back, as things will only get worse, sorry.

Yes i have a juwel 120! All my stats are normal and I do regular water changes once a week and vacum the substrate 3 time a week. All my fish are quite small at the moment and realise I will need a bigger tank! (im working on it so no need to ***** people!!!)

hi
pakistani loaches are known as 'semi aggressive' fish so unfortunately you can get one that is aggressive to its tankmates. we have 2 & the biggest occasionally will chase another fish around the tank for a few secs before scooting off it seems to love doing this to other fish when they are sleeping but it is only occasional & only briefly & ive never seen any nipping or real problems, the loach when its being aggressive will swim up to a fish & shake its head from side to side i think its cos they use the 'spikes' at the side of their heads when theyre fighting.
more room will help + make sure youve got lots of caves, hidey holes etc for the loach to stake out as his territory & make it feel more secure. they like to wedge themselves into little cracks in rockwork or in a nice dark cave.
good luck

There is no bitching going on in this post. These people are purely trying to help you and pointing out something hugely important that will help you to manage a more harmonious tank! No one is a mind reader here so unless you state you're going to get a bigger tank it's going to be pointed out to you.

Thanks for the advice guys! Im sorry about the bitching comment! It just frustrates me when people seem to preech at me when I spend every non-working moment caring for my fish and adding to my knowledge via the internet etc. I have seen countless posts on here from inexperienced fishkeepers who ask why their fish have died because they don't know the basics!
