Hey guys.

My sister has a 5 gallon with 3 goldfish (1 black moore, 2 comets)...

Sunday night, they developed this green stuff on their body. Their eyes are partially covered in it, and i have no idea what it is. I have treated the tank with some multi cure hoping that might do something.

Help Help!

2 fish dead already. i don't want a third!

Many thanks :)

Water stats will be coming shortly

Ammonia: 4 - 8ppm (Just sprung up out of nowhere)
NitrIte: 0ppm
Nitrate: 0ppm

Please help me guys. Any help appreciated

your tank isn't cycled!!!! it may have been once, but it's not now.
As you are a fishaholic i assume you know what i mean in regards to cycling, but if not, check out the pinned topic on cycling and get ready to do lots of water changes.
I'm not sure about the green stuff, but the ammonia alone will kill the goldies, so you will need at least 2 water changes every day to help buffer the effects of the cycle.
hope this helps until someone who knows about the green stuff comes along to help.

Please see [post="0"]this thread[/post] for info on the needs of goldfish.

I'm sorry to have to tell you this, but your sister needs to rehome her goldfish asap if they are to have any chance of surviving. Even if they are just tiny little babies, 5g is nowhere NEAR big enough for even one of them. You should be looking at 20g minimum for juveniles and between 40 and 70g for adults (commons and koi really belong in a pond).

I don't know what the green stuff is from your description, but you need to be doing daily or even twice daily water changes to get your ammonia down immediately.

Good luck!

ok thanks fpr the support so far guys...

Yes, i do know about cycling... I will do water changes for the next few days...

If i put multicure in, would it be ok that i can put salt in the water?

Or should i do a water change now (about 50%) and then add salt?

hold off salt for the moment, if the goldys are stressed, putting in 50 different things will only make them worse. Water changes will be your best treatment until you can figure out the green stuff.

Is there any chance you could post some pics of the green stuff? If someone could give you a firm diagnosis that might be better than putting the salt / more meds in before you know what it is.

Fingers crossed...

yeh i thought about that... I will start the first water change tomorrow morning or afternoon. If i get a chance, i'll put a pic up and see if anybody can identify it.

Thanks... :)
