Hi all,

I just can't believe what I just did to my mail guppy. I was taking water out with the syringe and I sucked all the mail guppy's tail in with it. The guppies are used of coming when they see the syringe because I drop frozen food with it.
All of the tail is gone!!!! What do I do to save him now? He is in the corner at the surface?
I only have another aquarium full of fry.

Please....

I had to put him in the breeder box, as the others were picking at him. Then I decided to put him in the fry tank, and guess what, they also started picking at the him too straight away. He has all of his tail missing, but is able to swim somehow?
I can't put salt in the water, because of the corydoras, not sure if they can tolerate any salt. I don't want to put medication either.
I can't keep him in that box as he may get even more stressed, but there is nowhere else? Any ideas?
I would put a picture for you to see, but it is so gross...

oh deary deear!!! put him in a breeding trap and let him recover. Livebeares can be pretty thick at the best of times.........

And we do need a pic...

I'll take one tomorrow, as I stressed him out too much now and decided to turn off the lights. But what can I tell you, all his tail is gone literally...Today was my regular day to test the water, taking it out with the syringe and bang...all of his tail went into the syringe. My hands are still trembling from the feeling and when I saw what I've done...

keep the water clean and the surinjes out and he should recover... if i managed to get a goldfish bqack from having no fins at all then you can manage a tiny little guppy

Thanks for replying, somehow I feel better as there is no one else I can ask.
Water should be clean, I do water change every 3 days, 25%. Do you think I should do one everyday? I do it in the fry tank, so not a big deal if it needs be...There is 0 ammonia and 0 nitrites, nitrates don't reach over 20 from what I've tested so far.

How did you cure the goldfish?

dont bother with WC's every day, just causes more stress. I suggest a 50% every week for the time he is in there to minimize stress even more.

The goldfish was cured by clean water, Melafix (by API) and a lot of care and devotion - including hand feeding as he could barely move.

I have a bottle of Melafix I bought as a precaution, but I am a bit afraid to use any medication because of the rest of the guppy and also I intended to move some of the bigger fry to this tank.
How long did it take for the gold fish to recover?

P.S
I will put a video in a few min of him before the accident. And one tomorrow after :(
I don't even know what breed he is, but he fathered 2 batches of fry already. I still don't want to lose him...

Below is the link to the video. He is the only guppy mail in the tank. There are 3 female guppy, 1 albino koi swordtail( I have another thread for her as she used to be aggressive with the corycats), 4 albino corydoras, 1 pleco and 2 platies. I will be getting a bigger tank in the near future...This one is 30G with everything, but with the substrate in the water is a bit less, about 26G

Just wondering, what type of guppy do you think he is anyway? I have been reading a lot about guppy genetics recently and I would be curious to figure out what genes he passed on to the fry. Also, what about the female with the blue tail? Is she blue neon, or half black something...The only one I can figure out is the tequila sunrise female guppy. The other half black one with the black/spotted tail, I have no clue...

I don't think he will make it. It's my fault that I stressed him additionally by moving him around. He is belly up in the breeder net :( but still breathing...

Thanks...

He just died. I put him out and took a picture of him, attached.
You just can't imagine how I feel about this little fish dying :(

He looked like a Yellow Tuxedo Guppy. I must say your females show excellent color!. You should get some exceptional fry from that trio, depending on the males they have been exposed to during the past several months.

Poor little guy died after some horrible suffering :(

For one of the batches of fry I have I am pretty sure it is from him. For the other one, 50/50%. The third and first batch I have are definately not his. I don't want copies of him, I'd rather he was alive, so it doesn't really matter how the fry turn out as long as they are nice.
As for the colours, those females were not as colorful when I got them. The blue one doubled her tail in size literally and got coloration on the bottom fins, which were clear seethrough before and are now blue. The black one with the dots, got blacker, but she can change her color if stressed, she goes grey!! However, she started getting colour on her bottom fin as well since I got her, of course not as nice as her other fins, but still nicer than lack of any colour.
The male was in quite bad condition when I got him, he had just started to recover slowly. His dorsal fin was like cut/nipped and his tail looked rough. At some stage I thought he had fin rot, but the rest never got any signs, so it was probably his tank mates or bad water conditions.
