How big is your tank& what are your water stats?
Did you cycle your filter?

my tank about 30gall and i clean filter sponges regualy in old tank water and i usualy top up every so ofton

and yes i did cycle my filters i atualy left it to cycle for a few weeks about 3 to make shore it was perfict and when i added fish i keep a close eye on ph and nitrite too

and my water stat is its at around about 7ph and the nitrate test comes clear and idears?

:-(

i have about 5 females
and 3 males

How did you cycle it during those 3 weeks? Was there a source of ammonia, or did the tank just sit there empty with the filter and heater going?

You mentioned keeping an eye on nitrite, and you mentioned the nitrate being "clear". That doesn't address the real issue, which is probably ammonia. Do you have an ammonia kit, and are you testing it?

Ammonia and nitrite should both be zero (as with a fully cycled tank), however nitrate should be showing up by now if the tank has been running cycled for 3 months. If it isn't, then chances are that the cycle isn't complete yet.

The cycle works like this: Ammonia needs to be processed first into nitrite. Then the nitrite needs to be processed into nitrate. Then you do your water changes to remove the nitrate.

If your filter bacteria aren't able to handle the ammonia produced by the fish, the ammonia builds up and poisons the fish. Ditto for the nitrite. The nitrAte can build up and can only be effectively removed by water changes.

But see, you haven't answered the question of how you cycled your filter. Alot of people are under the assumption that if you run the filter, you are cycling. This is not the case. You need an ammonia source to cycle your tank. We are just trying to narrow down your problem. We need to know how you cycled your filter, what your levels are for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate. We could do more harm if we don't have this information. I don't want to tell you it's a bacterial infection and have you treat it with meds and that not be the problem.

right!
I Get It Now O The amonia Source Must Of Been I added after 1 week i added 3 fish and slowly added more

what are your water stats now?
You are in a fish IN cycle..have a look at the section in the beginners forum all you need to know is in there.
Your fish are certainly dying of Ammonia poisioning. you need to do BIG waterchanges DAILY (maybe even 2) to keep your ammonia down to 0. NitrIte also needs to be 0. NitrAte is fine up to in the 100's.

Test your water
Do a big waterchange.
test water, if still showing Ammonia do ANOTHER waterchange.
Test water daily
waterchange when you have ANY reading of Ammonia OR NitrIte.

Mate, we're not trying to catch you out, we're not trying to make you feel silly, we're not trying to judge you, we're trying to help you. We need accurate info from you to be able to help you. If you tell us one thing, then tell us something different, that makes it incredibly difficult for us to figure out what's going on.

Believe me, I made loads of mistakes when I started out, if it wasn't for this forum, I'd probably have jacked it in long before now. No-one is going to think badly of you for making beginners mistakes, especially when those mistakes are propagated by the majority of fish shops.

Tell us what has actually happened, and we can advise on the next few steps. :good:

+1

Bugg,

I look forward to your next post. I hope that the members here will get an opportunity to help you.

Please let us help you help your fish! I get great pleasure out of helping people getting it done right. Test your water, with a liquid test kit, for ammonia, nitrites and nitrates. We really do want to help, but most of us will be away for the holiday and this may not wait till Monday, or Tuesday. We'd like to get you on track for the weekend. Happy Holidays!
