fishy's fins looked ratty with white tips and I treated 4 day course of Erythromiacin, it's been about a week and the fins look about the same (I may be imagining a little worse becaause I thought I saw a hole a little hole in the fin, and now he has velvet. I started on quick cure for the velvet, I'm hesitant to do another course of antibiotic but I do know that secondary infections are common just not sure what to do next and I don't want this illness to go on too long, the fish is eating... on hand I have quick cure, erythromiacin, coppersafe, melafix and I do use aquaarium salt but may I could use more
thanks for your help

It can take up to three weeks to heal fins even with antibiotics.
I would get you an article on finrot it for betta but still applies.

thanks for the great article, that leads me to a question about using Aquarisol or Coppersafe (as recommnded in the other forums Rock Salt article) how do you feel about it? and sdo you need to test the copper levels in your water if used as directed, also it seems that I have some different brands here and I wonder if I need to worry about using products from different companies?

Never used coppersafe so can't say.
Some types of fish don't tolerate copper to well so have to half dose.
You must increase aeration as the high temp and med reduce 02 in the water.

I know you can use maracyn products with coppersafe and thats about it.

How often do you do water changes? Do you perform water changes after treatment?

1-3 days depending upon the medication instructions, after I stopped medicatating and replaced the carbon filter I did daily changes for about a week then I cycled the tank with biospira on sunday and yesterday my amonia and nitrites were down but nitrates were up so I did another change yesterday is when I noticed the Velvet and started the quick cure
