hi this morning i noticed white spot spreading through my 130 litre tank by about 7 oclock this morning most of my fish were looking more like snowmen :S ive done a water change added white spot treatment as instructed by bottle and now ive had a clown loach die :byebye: but the other fish are swimming around more now and my kissing gouramis arent lying on the bottom but i have some silver sharks in there waiting to be moved to there new 5ft tank and there fins have gone red like there bleeding and they are the most covered in spots. what is this? what can i do please help thanks

just to say i just done a water test my ammonia levels are 0.0 nitrates are 0.25 but i think this is due to the chemicals ive added after the water change do i need to list the other results

Sounds like you're doing all the right things. I should wait and see if the whitespot treatment helps. You could turn up the heater by 1 degree, I've heard this can help whitespot.

Did you mean nitrates or nitrItes? NitrItes should be nil but nitrAtes at 0.25 is ok.

Clown loaches are very prone to whitespot and may have infected your other fish. Did you buy them recently?

The only other treatment if you haven't got catfish or plecs is to add some aquarium salt as per instructions. Helps the meds work but cannot be used for catfish/plecs.

Hope the fish get better.

my NitrItes are 0.25 and i have cat fish in there so salt is a no go the clown loach are what infected them i know i kept them in quarenteen for a week added them and 3 days later this happened. any idea what the red fins on the bala sharks is about? also there fins are looking frayed aswell tahnks

Sometimes when the spots fall off the fishes fins get a little ragged. They are also injured and could be bleeding. It could also be septicemia. I have no experience with septicemia, but I hear it is really deadly. Keep doing what you are doing. If you are increasing the temperature, lower the level of your water to increase surface agitation, or use an airstone. High heat lowers the oxygen levels in your tank. Heats below 85 will not kill the ich, they will only speed up the life cycle.

I have used high temp and salt to cure ich, but if salt is out cause of scaleless fish, I would not recommend high heat. What treatment are you using?

im using interpet aquarium treatment number 6 anti white spot plus.
is septicemia normaly found with white spot i do water changes of 20 percent weekly and replace water with dechlorinated as you would expect the red fins appeared only this evening

I really don't know anything about septicemia. I think it appears as red streaks on their fins. Maybe someone else can help you more. I have heard good things about interpet meds. Keep doing what you are doing. Someone that knows more about the meds you are using can help with the dosage and water changes etc... I am not sure how to use that med correctly and I don't want to give you bad advice. Good luck.
