I bought 2 dalmation mollies last week. The lady said they were both males but I'm pretty sure she's mistaken, one has a flaired out fin like a female would from what I've heard. I've never had mollies before today but I have never heard of them fighting or being this aggressive. The first few days, they only stuck together, no problems..and now they are more independent..but I just went in there and they were swimming around in circles and it looks like they were fighting. Actually the male seems ok but the female seems MUCH more aggresive, and often to the other fish as well. She doesn't seem to be biting them but she's kinda mean! Either way they seemed to be fighting and I don't know what to do. I kept having to turn the light off and they were fine, but whenever I turn it back on they find each other and go at it again.

What should I do!????

How big is your tank?

What other fish do you have in your tank?

Do you have lots of places for them to hide?

I have a 10 gallon tank with:

3 mollies
4 platies
2 female bettas
1 male betta (temporary..he's new and I'm watching him closely, no aggression for the past few days)

I have a few plants but I plan on buying more tomorrow. I now have 2 or 3 with what seems to be Ick, so that doesn't help things. They have since stopped fighting but are still agressive towards each other. Any chance he was trying to mate?

It is possible since they were trying to mate. As long as no one looks torn up, or scratched they should all be fine.

no problem. Yes keep an eye on them and if you see anything strange. Check out the forums.

I'm afraid your 10G is well overstocked; you'll need to take some of them back to the shop. Fish like Mollies and Platys can easily reach 3 inches in length. Please think seriously about a bigger tank.
