Help, Do I Need To Trim/cut This Plant?

I just got a bunch of thin val, it is about 80cm tall (height) so when I put this in my tank, the tall strands were floating around because my tank is only 50cm tall.

Should I trim/cut the tall strands so that the stand upright?

officially speaking you should totally remove the long leaves from the base allowing the newer leaves to grow through the jungle of leaves.

in practice with vallis i just give it a haircut with sharp scissors. it depends on growth rate, in a high light tank with co2 it can take a beating hence why my method works. in a low light environment the cut leaves may die back leaving a rotting mess.
