I need some tricks of the trade for cleaning sand.

I have a battery operated cleaner which just sucks it all up.

And a normal one does the same.

hi, i use the tubing for air driven sponge filters,it takes longer but it works removing all the poo.only losing little sand.oh and if you push the sand higher at the back and slopes down to the front of the tank the dirt will collect at the front which helps too. i hope this helps.

Hiya J1mbo,

All you need to do is hover the siphon about an inch above the sand and it will suck up the debris without sucking up the sand too. It's normal to siphon up a little sand and all you need to do is give it a rinse in old tank water and pop it back in the tank. It might take you a few attempts to get the hang of it but it's easy once you've got used to it :) Hope that helps a bit :D

Like PrettyLittleLamb said, you just need to hover above the sand, but I also swirl it a bit - this picks up the debris and not the sand. Good luck.

you will lose some sandevery wc no matter what. There might be a corner where you can't judge how close you are or what have you, but no worries, the little suck out will not effect the depth of the substrate. Over a few years it will, but that is a lot of wc's so don't worry.
