I am totally new to planting tanks. 100%. I would really like the help of others on this decision.
INFO ABOUT TANK:
-20 gallon "taller" tank.
-Averages 80* or so. (78*-82*)
-No salt what-so-ever, completely freshwater.
-Has what's considered "low" lighting. (Has a fluorescent lamp over-head. Trying to get better lights.)
-Gets light for about 8-10 hours a day.
-I have a fine gravel substrate mixed in with large river rocks and some rocks in-between there. (Just got it, so not in the pic I will add.) Total I have around 18lbs of substrate. I haven't put it in so I don't know how thick it will be. It is a medium color.
-pH is generally around 7.
-Never had algae.
-Will add some nerite snails & ghost shrimp soon.
-Has a hang-on-back filter that's an Aqua-Tech.

(I do realize it is for up to 15 gallons, but this easily filters my tank.)
-The tank is baffled with a plastic water bottle so the out-take isn't very strong anymore. The intake has a grated piece and isn't that strong either from what I can tell.
I really like the vallisneria plants, and people have said java mosses/ferns will be nice for my kind of lighting as well as anubias. But I really have no idea what will thrive in my tank, or even LIVE, so I'm asking for advice!
Below is the tank. I will have it up on a stand soon, with a basic background (probably a blue), and of course will be adding the new substrate. Completely different from this gravel! Those are plastic plants that I will move back into my 5 gallon.
