been sat here for ages looking at lots of them, none of the specs really mean anything to me
rolleyes.gif
so i`ve kinda gone for the "pretty"one
unsure.gif

it wont need to play games, i will want MSN/email ,and to be able to be on a few websites at the same time..storage just confuses me,pics and music yes...do i need it for anything else?

anyway this is the one i like ( and have kind of set my heart on) http://www.pcworld.c...sm=null&tm=null
but of couse, if its a terribly bad choice i can rethink

so your opinion is.......

cheers in advance

evening Shelagh :D

first of all, do you listen to CD's? this doesnt have a drive, so you cant listen to cd's/dvd's write cd/ dvds

batteries dont last long either, web pages are cramped and smaller,

could you not get a normal laptop? is price an issue?

i noticed that ( the dvd drive- or lack of) but i could always get an external if i really needed one.. though i cant see it..i have a laptop, just fancied a bit of a change along with trying out windows 7
i certainly dont need another method of playing CD`s ( i have enough cd players and ipods to make comet look understocked

) also have an iphone which of course i can use for all the things i want the netbook to do...but thats very heavy on the battery... unless i have the settings wrong

so you reckon theyre not all theyre cracked up to be then ? ( dont really want to go over about £300 as its an extra rather than a need)

i would never touch a netbook IMO. i dont rate them, i think theyre a gimmick, especially if you have a laptop

(iphone battery is prolly related to huge useage, my N97 does the same)

if you dont actually need a netbook, i wouldnt get one. save the money for the fish :p

I'll stick my beak in...
The iPhone is renouned for being heavy on the battery. If you turn off push notifications for email, 3G and anything else you don't use, then it will improve, but it's never going to be great. I don't get any more than a day out of mine, but still love it and could not go back to a 'normal' phone now, especially since upgrading to the 3GS.
You've got a laptop already, and although it looks good, it is very basic and I think you'd soon get frustrated with not being able to do things you could do with the laptop.

ok `i`ll have a look at how i turn those things off ,as i happen to love it too,for just the one reason... thanks Martin.( feel free to stick your beak in at anytime :) )
so i wont be buying one then.... more frustration i can do without!
thanks for the advice both of you :)

If you're not happy with your laptop though it's worth checking to see if there's a resolution to those issues before going to buy a netbook...but if you want a netbook then get one, regardless of what anyone else on here has to say.

If i was to buy one now I'd wait a little bit and buy the Asus Eee 1201N...it's a bit more pricey than most netbooks and arguably entering the laptop price range also, but it's much better than the average netbook.

i have a netbook well a asus eeepc on linux personally love it as its one of the fastest laptop ive used/owned

also they can be very annoying as they 1 dont have a cd drive

2 the screens arnt huge

Linux is doing it's job for you then Bae  Windows is a rather resource hogging operating system, and does tend to be slower than Linux/Mac (though as Mac runs on a Unix core, it's arguably a Linux distro...). Netbooks are a base spec computer basically, that's been squashed a bit and had extra weight taken out. For a traveler that only needs a base spec computer, they are ideal. You only need a base spec computer for music, web browsing and MSN, and if battery life isn't an issue, a Netbook probably is a good choice for you, particularly if your the type that takes their computer with them everywhere...

I sure as hope with those specs that Windows 7 isn't as bigger hog of resources as Windows Vista. If it is, that system will be really slow on 1GB of memory... I haven't used 7 though, and don't know anyone else that does ATM, so I don't know if that really is good. I take Microsoft's minimum requirements with a pinch of salt. Vista claims to be runnable on 1GB of RAM, but under light (defined by me a 5 programs open) load in a laptop with 3GB of ram, Vista complained about a lack of memory and started to really lag. By all means, give it a go. If it doesn't work, install XP (like most people that bought a laptop with Vista did) or better still, give Linux a go... Installing a new OS could be fun without a CD/DVD drive however...

Packard Bell computers are OK. There are better makes out there, but there are also (much) worse.

HTH some

yeah my brother has the same laptop and im currently on zandros but my brother now runs his on ebuntu

the operating system has to put onto a memory stick the put on the computer

windows 7 uses less memory than vista, which is why i didnt say anything about it.

windows 7 runs quicker than xp used to

OK so i bought it anyway! and have to say its fab!! yes its small, but not too small ( in any way) also bought an external disk drive just incase... i went in to have a look at it in reallife as i was next door buying fish food, and it was love at first sight, i would recommend them :) nifty, stylish and so far i cant find any fault with it :)

but i do appreciate all the advice i had :)
