well i had my tank fully stocked with 1 angel, 7 neons, 7 glo lite, 3 ottos, 1 male and 1 female german blue rams, and 5 corries. i seeded the tank with fliter media from my other tanks when i first set it up and added the angel, the 2 rams, and a corry. after a week everything looked fine and so i added everything else. i guess i overloaded the thank or whatever and my fish started to die. luckily no disease though. no im left with one angel, 5 corries, 1 otto, 3 neon, and 5 glo lites. i know im going to leave the tank alone for a month or so to let it settle and the bacteria to grow. i would like suggestions on what else i could add. i know i want to def have the one angel, 5 corries, 3 ottos, 7 neons, and 7 glo lites. is thereany kind of nice center piece fish i could add. something thats not too big and really colorfull. maybe just a school of cardinals added to the rest? what about class catfish? i like how these guy look but i know nothing about them. do they shoal or can i keep them buy them selves or just a few of them or what?

oh and will this be alright for a ten gal: 1 male and 1 female pair of german blue rams and 2 male guppies and 4 female guppies?

I can't answer all your questions (and I'm sure someone more knowledgable will reply), but I'll do my best to give you a little advice.

First, how big is this tank? Is it the 29 in your profile? (Just double checking so I'm not confused.)

What kind of "centerpiece" fish are you looking for? I would say your angel IS your centerpiece fish. I'm not sure how large it is now, but they can grow to be fairly sizable, and definitely a beautiful fish to watch.

Also, (hopefully someone more experienced with angels can help here) -- don't angels sometimes *eat* neons? (When they're big enough I mean)?

If you want to keep rams again, I'd suggest adding them to your tank absolutely last after everything is cycled and all the other fish have settled in and things are completely stabilized and matured. They're extremely delicate to any fluxuations. (But they really are beautiful -- one of my favorite fish.)

Anyway, good luck and hopefully someone else will be able to post & give you some more help...

yes its the 29 gal from my profile. i keep forgetting my angel is a center piece fish........its just so small right now. they will eat neons(its there natural food source) but ive read and been told that if you raise a young angle with neons then it will be less likly to eat them when older. ive now learned how delicate rams are.......they were the first fish to die, which i think was because if ammonia levels because i had added so many fish at once which i knew better than to do so but i impulsed on it.

i guess all i really need to know now is can i do either of these stock plans in a 29 gal:
1 angel, 3 ottos, 7 neons, 7 glo lites, 7 cardinals, and 5 corries.
OR
1 angel, 3 ottos, 7 neons, 7 glo lites, 5 corries, and 5 ghost catfish
OR my original plan of:
1 angel, 1 male german blue ram, 1 female german blue ram, 3 ottos, 7 neons, 7 glo lites, and 5 corries

also if i dont go with my original plan of haveing the rams in the 29 gal can i have this stock for a 10 gal:
1 male and 1 female german blue rams, 2 male guppies, and 4 female guppies?

Out of your 3 options only 1 is good.
The 1st one with the cardinals is to many fish. By getting the cardinal tetras you will have 30 fish in a 20 gallon tank. And most if not all of those fish grow to 1.5" or more, which is way overstocked.
The 2nd one is also overstocking it. The total comes up to 28 fish i think. The 5 catfish grow to 2" atleast which right there is overstocking.
The 3rd one sounds decent. You might be pushing it a little but your rams should be fine, as long as you dont add anymore fish.

They say that the minimum tank size for a ram is 20 gallons. Many people disagree with that. People have been succesful in keeping Rams in 15 gallons. A few are succesful in a 10 gallon. However, in a 10 gallon with 6 guppies it might be tough. The rams could be under stress. Maybe you can reduce the # to 2 rams, and 4 guppies (1 male:3 females) You have to keep 1 thing in mind though. I am not to sure if a ram is compatible with a guppy. Some may be fine while others may bully. However, I am almost certain that if your male and female become a breeding pair in the 10 gallon, then they WILL act agressive towards your fish, mainly because of the size of the tank.
Also remeber that guppies are livebearers. They tend to spawn. The fry will become good treats for the rams. I'm not trying to dissapoint you but just giving you the information. You have to make the decsion. It is possible to keep 2 rams in a 10 gallon with guppies, but there is a risk.
Hope you make the right decision ... and keep us updated.

thanks............its actually a 29 gal not a 20 gal. good point about the rams. i didnt think about that. i guess ill just make it a guppy only tank. i just cant decided which way to for the 29 gal. i like the cardinals and the rams and i think it would be neet to have the ghost cats because ive never had them before.
