I was doing a WC on my 75 gal today and accidentally knocked the aquarium thermomter and it broke!!!

I took it out, cleaned up all the glass, but the little balls that surround the end of the thermometer were just about impossible to pick up (we have Eco-Complete substrate). I did my best, vacuumed the area really well, took out more water, then completed my WC adding plenty of Stress Coat...

The red line and bulb part of the thermometer (that goes up and down to read the tem) didn't break, but I am worried about those little balls that surround the tip... Are they going to hurt my fish? :-( I don't know what else to do. Please help!!!

Thanks in advance.

Oh my! That is icky. I think if you've removed everything you can see there is nothing more you can do. Just keep a real close eye on the residents for any problems. :dunno: Fingers crossed for your fishies.
Hugs,
P.

I would have thought that the little balls were just weights, so I would think that they wouldn't make too much difference, especially in a big tank.

I did the same thing months ago in my 55 gallon. All I did was pick up as many of the little balls as I could. My fish are fine as can be. I don't think they will harm your fish. :)

Thanks for all your responses... turns out they are just little weight balls and are harmless... but when you grow up with mercury actually in thermometers, one begins to freak abit! Thank goodness for advances in technology!

All tank inhabitants are doing well :kana: , so thanks for the advice!
