Help! Betta Emergency

Sounds like he's actually better off than many poor bettas! He's got clean, warm water and people who are about him! If you have any pellets or bloodworms from your other tanks try him with those, bettas often take better to pellets than flakes. And if he is a betta he will eat bloodworms :p Even if he doesn't eat for a few days, don't worry. They do last a lot longer without food than you would think.

Good luck with him, sounds like you're doing an awesome job! And I'm sure in the end that you'll fall in love with him and want to keep him :good:

Wow thanks for that, helps me to know that I'm doing alright by him. I've got some bloodworms, so perhaps I'll give those a go. And it's far too late, I'm already in love and want to keep him

hee hee

i'm meant to be selling my little tank as it's not currently set up, kind of waiting until we've sold our big tank and re-arranged the living room just in case we've got room in the living room to set it up again

feeling v sad about only having 1 fishtank at the moment, it just doesn't feel right.

That's alright :good: Yeah, he should love the bloodworms. Yay, I knew you'd want to keep him! Haha, it wasn't a mistake that you picked him up, it was meant to be :p

I wouldn't know what to do with only one fish tank. Mind you, my largest is enough fish tank to equal at least 2 smaller fishtanks. We're the kind of household that sacrifices space for fishtanks  Soon we'll have no living space, only fishtank space

Splish, we'll see if it's meant to be. I'd like to think so anyways. Gotta wait and see what verdict my hubby comes back with, whether we'll be keeping him or no. *fingers crossed*

yeah we had 8 tanks running at one point (in a 1 bed terraced house) but we're renovating the house to sell it, too much work to renovated around all the tanks so we've stripped down all bar 1 of them for the time being and when we've moved we'll set up a couple more. But I keep looking at the little tank and thinking, well it's only teeny, sure we can find space for it somewhere :shifty:

Wow, 8 tanks, I can't even imagine. I bet you had some variety of fish! I think if we do get a 3rd tank for the betta, I'll be at my max. But of course I'll continue to daydream of all the types of tanks I could come up with. There's so many I have no experience with that I'd love to try, like barbs, oh and rainbow fish. Oh there's just too many :)

Still no go on the betta eating. I've tried everything now, I'm not sure what else to do except wait and try again tomorrow.

aye, we have now realised though that we don't need to keep every fish at the same time. I'm 25 so hopefully got a good few years of fishkeeping left!

we've agreed in the next house we'll have a big marine tank a big planted tank then we'll have something like a 30 gallon which can just be in circulation so we can change that one round every year or so to enable us to keep a good variety of fish....... sure it won't work out like that but you have to make some plans!

don#t worry too much over him not eating, it often takes fish a few days to settle and start eating. remember in the wild fish often go a week or two without food so no need to panic after a couple of days.

Well the verdict is in, we'll be keeping the betta, yay :) Now just have to find a tiny tank for a tiny price to fit in the tiny space which is the only space I have left near a power outlet. Anyone know of any great websites I can price tanks on? I've only been able to find seapets, and keep in mind I'm in the UK so no US sites please!

yay, knew you'd keep him.

get some pics up of the new tank when it's all set up :good:

I'll try and do that. I've got almost no photos of both my tanks, so perhaps I'll take care of that soon. :)

So here's our new tank! Husband managed to pick it up on his way home from a different LFS from the one we ended up getting the betta from. It's a 35L/10G, bigger than I thought we'd get, but still nice.

Sorry for the horrible fake plants, but the dirty anubias & wood in the back is real, from the 55L hex tank I have. I'm borrowing it until the tank settles in.

Good on you for keeping him and buying him a lovely new tank.
Good luck.

Thanks for that :) I too am happy he's staying with us.

He's made it through the night, and seems quite happy in his new home. He seems somewhat tiny in there, but in there he'll stay, by himself, for quite a while - as hubby was disgruntled at how much he had to pay to get this betta a new home.

awww that looks like a really sweet tank for him :D
