Were new to tropicals, weve had cold water fish for years though. Yesterday we added our last three fish to the tank, they are balloon mollys, two hours later one gave birth! Some got eaten sadly but we rescued five, bagged them, floated it and dashed to the pet shop for a hatchery and fry food. Today i nipped back to the petshop as they had sold me two male mollys and one female and the males were chasing her a bit. So i got two more females. Alls fine but two guppy fry have snuck into the bag!!!! Ive put these with the molly fry. So how long do i keep them, i cant possibly keep them all and wheres best to advertise once theyre big enough? Any help would be great, thanks Helen

That's the problem with livebearers, they breed like they're from Essex.

THey need to be 2-3 months before they're big enough to rehome. Either Gumtree (UK) or Craigslist (US) are places to try and sell them, the problem is that they're so easy to find, most people get them from the LFS. You could also try giving them to the LFS, but the chances of getting money for them are slim.

You will have this problem again in 4-6 weeks, and with the other 2 females as well. It is probably best to let nature take its course, this controls numbers exceptionally well. When I had platies and mollies, I never even saw a single fry.
