Hi there hoping someone can help this is my 1st ever fish tank and its going a bit wrong!

bought our 1st tank a little while back and started it off with propper real plants
then added 3 small platies and last week 2 small guppies...

Now we had spotted a couple snails (must have come free with the plants) and removed when
we could get to them.....BUT we now have 20 + baby snails!!!

Also (remember we're new to this) one of the guppies now we feel is a boy (thought i'd bought all
girls, asked shop assitant if the tank i was choosing from were girls and was told yes!)

Oh and to cap it all we also have 10+ baby fishes swimming round

what do i do??? the big fish dont seem to be eating the babies and if all survive the tank will
be well and truly over stocked (its only 35ltr) I know i could take them to the pet shop to be sold but
at how old??

fishing the baby snails out could be hell most are only the size of a pin head but already they are
detroying the plants! (and we think we can see eggs on one of the plants!)

Any suggestions on what to do appreciated... think other half wants to go have words with the pet shop tomorrow anyhow

Yes some lfs will take them off your hands, just ring about.

if you keep the babies in the tank they'll probably be eaten, if not, the lfs might take them. It's always best to wash live plants first to make sure no snails or snail eggs will come in the tank. To get rid of the snails take a piece of cucumber and drop it in the tank, the next day or in a couple of hours you'll see the snails on it, take the piece and thow it out. If you see any more snails repeat this. The fry might be guppy or platy fry. To tell if they are males-with the guppies males will have a bit of longer finnage and will be more colorful. With both guppies and platies the males will have a tube-like anal fin, while the females will have a fan shaped anal fin. Females can store sperm so even without a male around they can keep getting pregnant for a while.

will try thre cucumber thing tomorrow (cross ya fingers it works!!!)

here's pics of them all its Mavis i believe may need renaming lol

yep, Mavis is a he, the other slook like shes. Don't trust the "black" spot (gravid spot) it should always be there, look at the size.

One of yoour guppys have finrot which is common in guppys.

which of the guppies??
We bought the fish formerly known as Mavis along with another guppie from the same tank at the shop and the
other one died 3 days later (was def a female means shop had guys and gals in one tank!)

should anything be done to treat the finrot and what?

btw cheers for being soo helpfull!! wondering if we can get a free little tank out of the shop for all the inconvienience lol!!
then mavis/marvin can have a tank of his own lol!!

The nice colourful guppy in the 5th pic.
Any of the others nipping his tail.

I believe Mavis has the fin rot... aquarium salt and melafix should help. You shouldn't always trust lfs' they usually give bad advice.
