ok. i have 2 angelfish one male and one female and recently they breed and left me some eggs on a part of the filter. when i saw the eggs i opened the tank lid and started taking them out and puting them in a breeding trap for safe keepings. First question when i was taking the eggs out both angelfish suddenly went crazy and started trying 2 eat the eggs even when i had my hand there they ramed by hand where they really trying 2 eat them or protect them? Then i took the breedfing trap with the eggs in and but it into a fry tank i have with a few orange molly fry in. but i left the eggs in the breeder tap 4 safe keepings in the tank. i put a the tube from the airpump into the trap to circualte the water which i read some where u got 2 do. the next day when i was looking at the aggs some of the eggs where complety white where as some where clear as when i got them. second question how come some went completey white? now 2day most off the eggs have mold on them  mostly the complete white 1s. i touched one and it fell apart . i looked closey at one of thee egga and it looked like a tail was popin out moving. r all the fry in the eggs dead now? i have the light on in the tank 4 about 8 hours a day. i dont know what 2 do and i would hate for the eggs 2 be dead. Any help thanks :-(

Oh i thought they would eat them i read some thing on the net that said they would oops ty

There are better ways to keep the eggs than a breeding trap. One suggestion is a jar with methylene blue and an air stone...

Anyways, the parents normally clean the eggs and eat those that have succumbed to fungus. When you moved the eggs away, it became your responsibility. :/

If the parents are like male bettas, then they were trying to eat the eggs when they saw you trying to take them out. Don't know why that is. I suppose I would eat my offspring, too, if some bigger guy were trying to eat them, wouldn't you?

And don't write in bold and such a huge font!

Hey ill do what i want thanks for u help lol. ok so ye all sure next time just leave the eggs and the parents wont eat them yes?

yes leave the eggs, angels are meant to be good parents, better luck next time.

ty that god dam page i went 2 said that they eat them or the new type do anyways all well 2 weeks 2 new spawing i hope lol tyvm

No, they do. The thing is, they all have different temperaments. You take a risk if you keep them in, but it reduces the work you have to do if the parents look after the eggs. You could try leaving the eggs in once, and if things go wrong, you can always get another batch.

ok how long do u think 2 next spawning? and if and when the eggs hatch should i take the young fry out?

It's been a while since I did any research. :sigh:

Since angels do not rely on secretions from their parents' skin, when they hatch would be fine.

The next spawning, I would think it would take a few weeks. Just feed them live or frozen foods until then. :D

but wud other fish like black widows eat them? how come 2 feed that 2 them??

The angels should protect there eggs from the other fish in the tank, so don't worry to much.

Hi

Angels like to lay eggs on slate stood up at the back of the tank. Good parents will tend them and protect them. Bad parents will eat the eggs its pot luck

When they hatch the good parents will defend the fry. FEED BABY BRINE SHRIMP.

Even good parents will eat the fry if they are disturbed. To breed angels properly they should be in a tank on their own

this way you can expect around 200 fry in a good batch

Sorry, I had to sign off before, but that's right. :nods:

The parents will protect the fry. And they do not feed off their parents (hence "discus"). :p

Good luck.

Before you get going with breeding angels, make sure you have some place to sell or give away 200+ fish. Also make sure you have around 200 gallons of extra tank space to grow them to a sellable size. 200 angels is a small batch, 400 is average, I've seen other breeders get 600+ with a well cared for mature pair that has been together for a while.

Parent raising angels need practice to get to that point, & some never make it there. The white eggs are fungus, if you pull the spawn to raise you can add some anti-fungals to minimize this. Meth blue is a good starting point, everyone has a different method & recipe for anti-fungals, if it works for you it's right. Breeding traps are for livebearers, they won't work too well for angel eggs.
