Hi all,
I'm new here and found this site on google when looking for help with my Angel fish.

Basically I have a large hexaganol tank (tall) about 80-100 litres I think, it's been set up for about 7 months and contains;
2 x Angel fish
2 x Red rainbows

We did have a plec but it died a few weeks back v.suddenly, we were going to get more at one point but decided to stick with what we had while they were gettig on and healthy.

Anyway today a load of eggs have appeared all over the heater, we think they belong to the angel fish as they keep chasing the rainbows away, and one of the angels appeared to be eating the eggs. In a panic we seperated the heater with a piece of mesh, as we've no idea what to do and were trying to prevent them being eaten.

Any advice welcome!!!

Thanks

i used to have angles who bred all the time, i found that the parents or the male, ate the eggs over night, as well as mr plec who loved them. in the end, we got another tank and swapped the filter round as they were laid on the filter.

within days they hatched and basically you go on from there. you need fry food like liqufry no1. or jbl flake.

the mesh unfortunately will not stop the fry once hatched from going into areas where they will get eaten, also, they may get sucked up in your filter, fry tend to do better with a form filter.

Not good if the eggs are laid on the heater......It appears that they are eating the eggs, but that is part of the parental care.... It is called "mouthing", a ritual where they remove the fungus off the eggs.... Too late now to switch off the heater, but they will repeat the process within one week. Provide a slate at about 45 degrees against the side glass which you can remove to a hatching tank with a little bit of aeration and methylene blue to take over the parental function. Eggs that turn white will not hatch. I assume by this time (being on the heater, all your eggs will be white.

Ahh thanks both- yes most are white so will need to clean the heater I presume.

I'm afraid I'm a bit of a novice to keeping fish, we weren't expecting them to breed so certainly aren't set up with a breeding tank etc. Will have to look into it if they're likely to keep laying eggs.

Ive just had the exact same thing happen today, should i turn the heater off or set it on low?
theres only 8 or so white eggs, all the rest look fine

They love things like heaters or filter intakes to lay on. And as 8inary mentioned, plecos love angel eggs. Everytime mine spawned, the pleco ate them as fast as they laid them. As Ludwig mentioned, the will probably spawn again in a couple weeks (after a water change seemed to be when mine always did). I have also heard that the first spawn usually wasn't a good one anyway.
