Hi there all,

My dad has got a small 10 gallon tank which he keeps some Guppys and Tetres in, but over the last few months the tank has started to develop a major green algae problem. Currently he is having to do almost 70% water change and tank clean down a week. He brought a pair of Yellow Algae eaters about a month ago and to start with they did a great job, but now they are getting bigger they seem to spend more time going after their tank mates than cleaning the algae.

Is there any better algae eaters which will be able to keep the problem under control, is there any small Plec's which could go into that size tank?

He has tried water treatments which you can buy from lfs which have not worked.

Over the last few days he has started to lose fish, but he can not tell if it the Yellow Algae eaters scaring them to death or the algae problem?

Try cutting down the amount of hours that the tank's light stays on. Bristolnose pleco would be fine or even Zebra pleco but the zebra pleco costs A LOT!!

Is the tank near direct sunlight.
Over filtering a tank can help.
Black the tank out.
You can add barley straw to filter.

What are your water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
Any symtoms to go on.

Well if you are not housing any shrimp at the moment in that tank the easiest solution would be to use Algae-Fix. Its a great product to get rid of algae fast. Also knowing your water parameters will help possibly learning as to why you are getting so much algae. Also is the tank near direct sunlight? That makes algae grow very quickly. Hope your problem gets fixed soon :)
