  ive started to have lots of problems all was well for about 12 months then all of a sudden fish started dieing checked ph all was good checked ammiona levels was very high about 4-5ppm done 25 % water change every second day for a week cleaned gravel up the cleaned the filter removed excess food, increased aeration went to fish shop the next day and got some ammo-lock.
couple of day later fish still dieing went back to shop they said to buy some cycle
prob taken all the good bacteria out of the tank put that in .
 now the fish have ether velvet or white spot so i done another 25% water change up the temperature to 82f took out the carbon and treated with a multi cure
i am on the second day of treatment.
but now im worryed that doing a multicure i have killed of the good bacteria again
ammonia levels still .5-1ppm i am worryed that the ammonia levels will go up again
its hard to tell because the ammo-lock doesn't show a true reading
not sure what to do next been reading heaps on the net they all say different things
i seem to be going around in a circle or a cycle lol
please help

Errm...You've got quite a pickle here...I would say, to keep Ammonia down, feed less, and turn of the filter for a few minutes so less food gets pushed under, then net any leftovers. I have heard people get a lot of problems with Ammo-lock and such, and It can give you a false reading
If you think you have velvet, try Jungle Parasite clear tabs, they worked for me, you need to find out if you have one or the other though.
Its weird that all of a sudden you had an ammonia spike...is your tank overstocked?(or was it :-( )
Did you add any new fish lately?
Do you have any other test results we could look at? (NitrAte, NitrIte, pH, ect)
You were doing the right thing i think, with the gravel vac-ing, and water changes i think, but maybe your filter cant cope? Is it by anychance too small? Did you clean it recently, with tap water? or old tank water?
Sorry for all the questions, but if some are answered we can figure out the prob much easier :flex:

my tank is a 3 foot ive had the same filter since iv had the tank and yes i cleaned it out with tank water
the tank might be a bit crowed since my guppy had about 25 fry
the ph 7.0 ph and the nitrate was fine two
i have only been feeding every second day

i had 3 molles
4 guppys
4 neon tetra
4 glow light tetra
and then about a month ago the guppy babys

the fish seem to have a greyish slime over parts of there body and
they are scratching themselfs on the gravel they are hanging around the filter
or the heater i read about white spot and velvet they are nearly the same
so not sure .
i also try a ammonia product called prime after three days it was still high
so i got ammo-lock
i think the fish shop just like me spending money in there shop

Lol, i agree...well...I'm tryin to read up about this, hmmm...I dont think the fry are the problem, so you now have 12 fish, and the guppy fry?
Or do you still have the mollies as well (i didnt understand that)
I'd say your doing everything right to keep the ammonia down, now that you've washed your filter pad dont wash it again for awhile, my lfs told me to replace every week, which is bullshhhh and would kill more fish than I could imagine. Hmm...I'll get back to you on the slime stuff, are there any other symptoms (are they still eating, gasping at the surface??, any sores or any tails ripped/rotting?...Is there a goldish colouring on any? Or looking very close any tiny whitespots? I'd shine a flashlight, and see if you see anything different...hope this gets solved

Dude dont use midicine to control ammonia its not good rather use waste control and change water once every 3 days. Which work better. And I think its the breeding part of the guppy make the water dirty like mad. Seriousely during the birth period water in tank will be so dirty I my self have this problem back when I have guppy. After the female gave birth usually the very next day I must change water else guppy will be sick. :( hope ur fish get well good luck.

they are still eating and they are gasping at the surface.but not all the time
i have
3 mollies
4 tetras
4 neon tetras
and about 18 fry left
loseing fry at about 2 a day now
the colour of the slime on them is greyish
no sores or ripped/rotting fins

i went to one of the sites you had suggested i think it may be one of these

Fungus; Body Fungus (True Fungus)
Columnaris: Mouth Fungus; Fin Rot disease; Cotton Mouth disease (False Fungus)

it sounds like lots of things
but i think the first one is like it

Don't use any ammonia removal products as they mess up your bacterial cycle and will only cause you more problems, the grey slime coating is most likely a slime coat reaction from all the irretation from the ammonia on their skin, which causes their slime coat production to go in overload in an attempt to protect them but turns they skin slimey grey. Keep doing water changes with dechlorinator every day or so as this is your best bet at removing the ammonia levels- what are your nitrite and nitrate levels like?
You will have to deal with the velvet with an anti velvet med(are you positive it is not whitespot?) as this is lethal to fish left untreated, what is the temp in your tank?
