Just wanted to post and say hello to everyone!

I've just started my own little freshwater tropical tank (10 gallons) and have 4 seemingly happy little harlequin rasboras swimming around in it. This is my first ever experience of fish and I'm really enjoying it :)

Hi, harlequins are great fish to start with :) you might want to get a few more in a little while as they do best in groups of 6+. Also make sure you know about cycling and water parameters, of course!

Yep yep! I went to a tropical fish specialist and cycled my tank before I put them in, they tested my water first and told me it was ok and then taught me how to test it and change it etc myself :)

Agree with Kitty Kat.
Welcome to the forum, Keith.

So how long has your tank been running now? If you added the harlequins after ten days then the tank wouldn't be cycled, unless you managed to get some mature filter media to help it along. I agree with the other, be nice to bump up the numbers of the harlequins to 6, but i'd recommend waiting and ensuring you keep the levels 'safe' whilst your cycle processes.

Welcome Emma. Once my own tank is cycled I'll be having a few of the Rasboras too. Have you got yourself a good test kit?

Ooh, agreed! Don't trust them with just an "ok", get them to write down the exact readings! A cycled aquarium has ammonia and nitrite of 0 ppm. If your readings are over 0ppm for ammonia and nitrite, please read about fish-in cycling.. it's not the best introduction to the hobby, but the most common.
