Hi all, just getting back into tropicals again after a 10 year break and want to set up a small (50ltr)tank as space does not allow anything larger at present. Ideally a densely planted one and was wondering what was the best substrate for this as i am a little confused by all the options now about. The tank will be filtered by a Fluval 305 with the return defused through a long spraybar,a co2 system,100watt heater and two 15 watt lights. The fish will be 10 neons and a couple of corys.

Welcome

My plants seem to thrive in my substrate, layer of course(ish) gravel, approximately 0.5-1cm thick, I use dorset gravel as it was cheap and readily available, and then I have a layer on top of fine roman gravel (practically sand) of roughly the same depth, plants root lovely in it, and my catfish are unable to dig up the plants.
