hi all, im new to this forum and to keeping tropical fish.

can anyone tell me how to work out the volume of a tank (uk gallons) please?

i have a small tank (18"x8"x8") with an undergravel filter, a 50watt heater and a light, i dont have any fish in it yet as i am unsure what fish to get and how many to get (hopefully you guys can help with that :) )
Ialso have a larger tank (18"x10"x12") that my aunt gave me it has a fluval 1 filter and 2 white cloud mountain minows in it, although ive been told these are tropical fish theres no heater in the tank and they seem very active and have survived like that for nearly 2 years with my aunt (a mean feat for any creature)

I look forward to reading your posts on the forum.

Karl.

Hey love the name!

Your 18x8x8 = 4UK gallons and your 18x10x12 = 7.5UK gallons (you add the measurements in inches together and divide by 276)

With tanks that small there's not to much you can put in but I am sure you will find lots of advice on this forum. I have never had minnows but from what I read they are very hardy and are fine in cold water, although I think they are a schooling species so you should maybe get a few more.

:D Hey Monkeybutter (my new favorite name!), sounds like you are doing the right thing by waiting to stock your tanks. Try the beginner's forum for what to look for and do :D

:hi: munkybutter! White clouds are a good choice for your tanks. Later on you may want to try danios or a type of livebearers.

:hi: to the forum.

Sorry I can't help you out with the claculations, but CS already has that covered.
