Hi people hope your all good.

I got one of these fish box 64 litre tanks from pet smart. The suckers on the pump wouldn't suck so took it back, they gave me a different make altogether pump.

Anyway my 2 angel fish have both died, literally about 10mins from each other diening. I'm wondering could this new pump be too strong for the tank with angel fish? I want some more angelfish but don't want them dieing.

I have a spare pump(original pump with new suckers) should I put that in and keep this stronger pump for when/if I get a bigger tank?

Cheers in advance

Hello there and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your angels :(

It sounds like this is a very new tank, is that right? Id so, then it probably isn't 'cycled'; that means that it doesn't have the right bacteria growing in the filter to help remove fish wastes from the water. Those bacteria are very important.

Could I suggest you have a read of some of the articles about cycling in our beginners resource centre here; http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/277264-beginners-resource-center/

If you have more queries then get back to us. I'm afraid your tank is really too small for angels anyway; they can grow rather large and shouldn't really be kept in anything less than a 20 gallon/90 litre 18 inch tall tank.

Hi thanks for that, yeah its pretty new like coming upto 2 weeks. The angelfish were only small ones, I got told they would get big, but I could have got a bigger tank maybe at a later date.

I will have a look at that link, cheers.

Now I've not been here long myself, but that's got to be the strangest post title I've seen so far! Tons of useful information on that link, well worth a read. Oh, and welcome from another newbie!

Cheers thought it might get some notice! haha

Right just changed my filter for the original one which is a interpet pf2, hopefully this is better now!

Sounds like we got the same bundle! I have the 64L fish box with the interpet pf2 as well, and they're both really good!
I think that if you're really keen on keeping angels, just go for the bigger tank now. It'll be less expensive (not having to keep changing tanks) and less stressful for you and the fish!
Also, if the angels died I'd let the filter cycle itself again for maybe another two weeks. Don't rush to put anything in! Take this time to design the tank as you'd really like it. :good:

yeah sounds like we have the same. I'm going to leave it atleast till next weekend till I get some more.

Do you have the filter any sort of power? I've turned it down near the bottom and still seems to be pretty strong, do you have a picture of your setup I could look at to try sort mine. Thanks
