Hello to all,i am new to the hobby, i was given a tank with a few fish from a friend at work and now i want a bigger one i am looking at a tank 40"x30"x18" holding 360ltrs i want to have it as a planted tank,as it is a deep tank will i be able to find tall plants or will it be better to use rocks to terrace the back of the tank and plant on top of the terrace.I hope to do a fishless cycle once all the plants and decor are in.i want a peaceful community setup with shoals of fish what fish would you reccomend for this setup and depth of tank. Regards Phil

to the Forum!

Sounds good with your 360litre tank and glad to hear you planning on doing a fishless cycle.

Some pics of your tank and progress would be good.

A great start and glad to have you aboard. Hope you enjoy the forum.

That's a good sized tank for shoaling fish. You'll find different species move and shoal differently. My favorites are rummy-nosed tetras and celebes rainbows. For an elliptical species, try serpaes ( be sure the scholl is large enough to discourage aggression ) or black phantom tetras. Six is a good minimum number for shoaling fish

to the forum, Phil.

There are plenty of plants that grow tall. Giant sagittaria or vallisneria, as well as 'stem' plants like elodea and cabomba, will all grow until they reach the surface.

Is your water hard or soft? It's better to match the fish you get to the water you have.

As this is the 'welcome' section, I suggest you post your questions in the main forums, where you'll get more replies (not everyone comes into this section!).
