Hello everybody

This looks a great site and im so happy to have found it.

I had coldwater fish about 15yr ago with my mum and dad, but i am now looking at setting up for some tropical fish. Im new to this, i have no equipment and i have to go an buy everything. So im after advise really on what to look for and what to stay clear of,

Im looking for a tank with stand, Want roughly 2ft maybe 3ft tank with stand and all the stuff. What do i need. Any help would be great. Also any idea of good places to buy stuff from around Colchester Area Essex.

Look forward to help

Have you tried Ebay? ...... brought two of my tanks from Ebay!

Juwel tanks are great, good looking and sturdy. I would also buy the biggest tank you can afford as the water quality will be more stable!. maybe look at a 125l 0r 180 l tank. What did you want to keep?

Happy shopping!
Ryan

Hi welcome

best advice really is 'buy the biggest tank you can comfortably afford' bigger tanks are more stable and easier to maintain, giving you a much easier introduction into the hobby. Personally i think a 30USG tank (approx110litres) would be a good starting point which would allow for many options for smaller community species.

I rate Fluval as one of the best companies, although you will find companies like Juwel and Rena are also rated highly.

Tanks to look at include the, fluval roma 125, Juwel Rio 125, and Rekord 120, These should come withstand, filter and heater.

You also may want to research into fishless cycling, fishless cycling
alternatively if you know someone near you who has a fish tank you can take some of their filter media to seed your own

Also have a hunt through this forum, should be at least 1 or 2 stores near to you

well nemo is a clownfish which are marine/salt water

here a link to some commonly available species
fish profiles

well as im not sure if they are capable of being together im going to group them and then maybe people will advise

i like

cyprinids
labyrinth
livebearers

Also would like some sharks aswell

So what do people reccomend for those type of fish?

Any specifics?
smaller barbs, rasboras, and smaller botia species are an option
gouramis are an option
pretty much any of the common species are suitable

of course there are one or two species that shouldn't be kept together i.e. tiger barbs and guppys or Betta
but if you post a stocking onto the forum we can check and make sure everything is compatible

unless you get a tank that is at least 50USG then sharks aren't an option as they will either grow too big or become very aggressive.

no real specifics, will probably have to go to the local shops and have a look, I like bright coloured fish.

I think im going to get a tank soon with all the kit and then leave it up and running to do the fishless cycle first before spending out on fish.

I really cant wait to be able to sit there and watch the fish playing around
