Fish Addict
Hello! My husband and I have recently gotten bitten by the tropical fish bug. Recently being within the last 3 months or so. I've had bettas before, but no other fish. He'd always wanted a tank, and mentioned it out loud, the silly man. And you know what happened next. You start looking in the paper or on the internet for tanks, reading up on the various species of fish, see a whole lot of stuff you can't afford and do a lot of this.....
I'm an avid member of Freecycle and so, while hubby was shelling out a couple of hundred dollars for his 26 gallon acrylic tank, I picked up a 30 gallon, two 10 gallons and a 15 gallon, with lights, filters and even some decorations, for free.
Now.... we have our tanks set up. He's got black skirt tetras and corys. I have red eye tetras, serpae tetras, black phantom tetras and black mollies in my 30, a female betta sorority in my 15, 2 female bettas in one of the 10's, which we use as a quarantine/hospital tank, and the other 10 gallon may be coming upstairs this weekend. I have one male betta in a 2.5 gallon but am getting another male shipped to me next week. Rather than have them in individual tanks, I'm thinking of setting up the 10 gallon, using a divider and giving them each a 5 gallon home.
I'm brand spankin' new to betta spawning. My first spawn ended with the male eating all the eggs. My second spawn, my female was not exactly cooperative, although she'd done beautifully during the first spawn, thus, the spawn was weak and I only ended up with 10 viable eggs. I lost 9 of those within the first week and put my heart and soul into raising Zoomer, the existing fry. He was so amazing and I learned a lot with him but, sadly, lost him 1 day shy of his 1 month birthday. I'll try again later this summer.
So..... hello! Glad to be here. I'm looking forward to helping whenever I can and learning every day.
