Hello everyone. jut thought i'd introduce myself.
my name is brad, im from melbourne, australia.
just set up my new tank, only 10g  but its a start haha.
relativly new to aquariums, had a few silver sharks when i was 14,but now im older and
undersanding alot more, i can enjoy the hobby in full.
i do have a first qurey to anyone who can help, it is about overstocking.
atm i have
2 mollies
2 rosy barbs
1 pakistani loach
1 goldfish (dont laugh my g'f loves him)
a few plant life, in as i stated 10g.
is this too much. so far they'v been alright, tank has cycled and ran for about 2 months and goldfsh been there the whole time. the rest of the fish
only a month or so. but just worried its to much?
any help?
cheers in advance

I would say that you're fine. I've been told an inch per gallon, so you can have 10 one ince fish. But I have had more than that. You just hve to make sure to do watet changes and syphon the gravel to keep it clean. :good:

thanks for that, just a bit worried about when they grow .
new tank will have to be on the cards lol.

Sorry but a 10g is not appropiate at all.

Firstly you shouldn't really be mixing gold fish with tropicals.
Secondly I am of the understanding the barbs are very active and need alot of swimming space.
I also would not keep a pakistani loach in a 10g tank.

You need a complete re-think of what you are doing :)

thanyou, this i advice i was hoping for.
as far as the goldfish goes. he has been in the tank the longest, is only an inch and half long. my lfs which happens to be
a family friends swears his fine in there apart from how dirty he tends to be.
should i be removing him to pond to be safe, even tho he's been there for months?
why is it not appropriate for the loach? too small tank?

I'd move the gold fish for sure, as you have said, it produces alot of waste.
Plus the whole cold water/tropical water, sure it might do ok.

But is that what you want, fish and a tank 'that might do ok'?

Pakistani loaches are better off kept in small groups (4 or more.)
4 in a 10g isn't really going to work.

You need to consider how big these fish will grow, some can and will grow quite quickly.

Just my two cents worth. :)

as i said, exactly the advice i wanted. thank you again.
goldfish is no problems to be moved and can be done asap.
the loach is my biggest concern though. as i was advise that they dont need 'friends'.
after much rsearch i'm now very confused on what to do.
as i said, goldifsh can go outside, should i be slowly introducing him as he's bee in tropical tank
for months now.will he reaclimatise ok?
this leaves 2 rosy barbs,2 mollies and the pakistani loach left
still too much?

I've never had a pond, but I would check Ph and temp of both tank and pond and go from there, the further apart the longer the acclimatization.
Really no difference than buying a new gold fish for the pond. Take the same precautions.

Rosey barbs will grow to 5-5.5 inches and need swimming space.

At 10g, the 2 mollies and some cory's would be better suited.
Otherwise, good excuse to get a bigger tank :shifty:
