Hi everyone, i recently found this forum when i treated my cichlids for ick and thought id say hi. Im a 24 yr. old ontario resident. I love Plecos and catfish and have had at least 1 tank goin for about 5 years now, with no trouble at all(raised piranahs,mollies,plecs, sharks and lots of wierd fish ive found at stores)just recently started addin a cichlid here and there to my 65 gal community tank and all hads been good for a month till the ick was spotted last week, but no biggy i hope. Well enough ramblin, hope i can help someone like some of these post help me.

Hey there,
I registered today as well - but I live in Oregon. Ich is a nasty freakin parasite I tell ya ... I have had ich go through my tank and wipe my fish completely. I have a 10 gallon tank ... so I have a lot going against me already with trying to keep it stable sometimes. I lost my 2 goldfish to old age - decided to clean my tank and change from goldfish to a set of Tropical fish (more color and personnality).

I started with Guppies - Ich developed on one .... and WHAM - they were dead in 6 days. I regrouped and changed a few things - changed from Guppies to Planties - (my duaghters changed their minds) - and within 2 days one developed a white spot. I yanked the carbon and did a Ich treatment - the other fish haven't developed any symptoms ... but the one with Ich died today (2 days).

The best I can figure is that Ich caused by temp change and new things added to the tank. I have kept my fingers crossed for the other fish ,,, lets hope that Ich is dead.
