Well, I'm a 16-year-old girl living in Frederick, Maryland, United States with a slight social phobia and obsessive compulsive difficulty. When I was young, I was introduced to the hobby of fishkeeping by my adopted uncle, and ever since then I have been obsessed with fish of all shapes and sizes, from guppies and pencilfish to whale sharks.
My dream is to become a Marine Biologist, and an aquarist and crafts professional on the side. In order to achieve my goal, I'll have to break my obsession with videogames... easier said than done! As of now, though, I'm just an aspiring teenager, so I might end up changing paths later in life.
One of my fondest interests is a computer game called "Aquazone", which is based around raising aquarium fish. Although in some ways it's rather unrealistic, it's still fun, and keeps me occupied for hours (literally!). The game's time follows your computer's clock, so you can set the calendar four years in the future... and all of your fish will be dead.
But anyway, I'm sure you're uninterested in hearing me babble about myself. I hope that this is a *relatively* accepting community. (I have no intentions of getting any stalkers here either. j/k
) And to start off, I have a question of my own to ask...
We live in a house out in the boonies and get our tap water supply from a well (filtered via reverse osmosis). Mind you, the water is not chlorinated and is rather hard. My question is, will this be in any way beneficial or detrimental to my fishkeeping desires? I might move out later, but hopefully if I do, the location will have a similar water supply (I'm not fond of big cities, and after having been acclimated to the water here I can hardly stand chlorinated water anymore!).
