Hello everyone. I am new to the group, and I see a lot of spam
messages from bots and the like in other groups on yahoo and such, so
I am thrilled to find a well-moderated group. Anyway, here is my
introduction post. I admit, it is sort of generic, because I use it on
other groups, but I am too lazy to type something new each time lol.
My name is Tasha. I am 30 years old, and a stay at home mom currently.
I am a hobby breeder, I guess you could call me. I don't do excessive
conditioning or anything like that. I buy my fish from Petsmart
usually, and put them in my large tank, and let them do the rest.
Sometimes I will separate a female and put her in the nursery tank,
but as my tank is almost all live bearers, I would be overcrowded too
soon. And so, I let them birth in the main tank and scoop out any fry
I might see and put them in the nursery tank. I call this a "natural
selection method." If they avoided getting eaten at birth by momma or
the other fish in the main tank, then obviously they must be destined
to carry on the next generation lol.
My tanks are as follows:
1 55 gallon long tank. This is my main tank. It is currently home to 3
Blue Paradise Fish (1 male and 2 females), 3 Black Fin Tetras, 3 white
clouds, 2 Golden Wonder Killie fish, 10 Neons Tetras, 2 Plecostamos
[sp?], 3 Corydoras catfish (2 albino, 1 green). Those are the non-
livebearers. It also houses 15 (or so) guppies: 1 male lyre tail, 2
male half-black red delta tail, 1 male German pink short tail (I think
it is called a German pink. That is the closest variety I could find
to how he looks), 2 wild-marked males, one of which might end up as a
lyre tail, and the rest are various fancy females, mostly golds,
though some do have a bit of color on their tails. Next, I have the
platies: 2 males (a mickey mouse and a golden sunset) and 6 females (3
red wags, 1 mickey mouse, 1 golden sunset, and 1 black hi-fin). The
last group of live bearers I own are the mollies: 1 male (creamscicle
sail fin lyre tail) and 4 females (1 black, 2 silver, 1 dalmatian) and
roughly a dozen juvenilles I haven't sexed yet, born about 2 or 3
months ago.
1 10 gallon tank. This is my nursery tank. As I find babies in the
main tank, I scoop them out and place them in here. On occassion, I
will also take the gravid female and place her in there, if it is an
eagerly awaited breeding. Right now, this tank is home to roughly a
dozen platies born about 3 months ago. The female was a red wag, and
as this was before I got the male mickey mouse, then it the golden
sunset male would have been the father. This pairing produced some
highly interesting results. So far, only one has actually shown any of
the distinct deep reddish orange of its mother, though all the fry
sport the deep black fins. The rest of them are very pale, with a few
even being white in the body, with blue eyes, though, again, they are
still sporting the black fins, so I know they are not albino. I am
eagerly watching them develop to see what they become. This tank is
also home to roughly 20 or so guppy fry, born yesterday, as well as a
couple molly fry and some others I am not quite sure yet born about a
week or 2 ago (all newborn fry tend to look alike lol). But as they
mature, I am certain to keep anyone interested updated.
1 1.5 gallon tank. The purpose of this tank is to house Jack, my Betta
Splendens. I bought Jack from a dollar store of all places, and have
had him almost 3 years so far.
1 30 gallon octagon. This is our project tank. We are in the process
of re-sealing it. It will take a few weeks. When it is done, I may
designate it a new nursery tank, or use it to keep the sexes seperate,
I dunno yet. It has possibilities.
1 1 gallon. This was jacks old tank. It has a crack. I am going to try
and repair it. If I can, I may use it for newborn fry or perhaps to
raise brineshrimp in. Who knows.
So, that;s me and my fish. Honestly, if we weren't renting this house
right now, I would probably have even more (or larger) aquariums, but
that is all space (and my fiancee, who thinks I am nuts lol) will
allow right now.
