Hello. I am new to the forum and to having fish. I have bought a couple of books and read some stuff online about how to care for fish.

As of this post I have
2 Gourami's
2 Tetras

I am getting more fish and I am also going to try to breed some Guppies! :good:
I also have two 10 gallon tanks and one 29 gallon tank. I am going to use the 29 gallon tank as a community tank and the two 10 gallon tanks for something else. I don't know what to use them for yet. I have 2 filters (one for the 29gal. and the other for one 10gal.), a heater (going to buy more soon for my other tanks), a net, a brush to clean my aquarium, a hose, food (of course), decorations, and a light. Can you recommend anything else that I should get? Thanks!

howdee :)

I would use the 29g tank for a community tank and the 10g tank for breeding the guppies. You can use the second 10g tank to hold the baby guppies until they are big enough to be sold or go in with the adults.

Tetras are schooling fish and should be kept in groups of at least 6 preferably 10 or more of their own kind. They naturally occur in groups of thousands in the wild so even 10 in a tank is a pretty small group for them.
Some tetras are fin nippers and will chew the fins on other fish like guppies and angelfish. The most common fin nippers are red-eye, black widow/black skirt, serpae, columbian & beunos aires tetras.

You might want to invest in a PH, ammonia, nitrite & nitrate test kit. Try to get liquid test kits because they are more accurate than the paper test strip kits.

Get a couple of plastic buckets for water changes. Use a felt pen (permanent marker) to write "FISH ONLY" on the buckets. Keep these buckets away from all cleaning products and don't let anyone use them for anything beside the fish.

You should get a gravel cleaner too. These are used to clean the gunk out of the gravel without removing the gravel from the tank. You can make them out of a plastic cool drink bottle and some clear hose, or just buy one from the LFS (loca fish shop).

What can i say that hasnt already been said except hello and enjoy the forum!!

Welcome.

On top of what collin has said i would also add to get some water conditioners and you might want to think of getting another tank for fish emergencies with illnesses so you can isolate them from the rest of the group.
