...Well hello everyone first off, id still class myself as a novice at keeping fish because until recently Ive never really been into it properly.

A little about me and my tank setups:

I started off by having a fairly large pond in my garden which I kept goldfish in, but then I thought itd be a good idea to have a tank indoors when we had to move and I lost my pond! So I kept my favourite goldfish out of the lot and got rid of the rest.

I moved this goldfish into a little 21 litre tank, my first ever tank and over a couple years I added a few more goldfish to it.

Admittedly I didnt really pay enough attention etc to them and ignored over crowding issues etc, I guess I wasnt old enough to keep them properly

Now 6 years down the line, and getting into the hobby properly and reading up on things alot more, I have a bigger 54 litre tank setup for them although I have decided this is far far too small for them now after doing reading etc and also seeing as the original goldfish I kept from the start has grown alot more since I got him, aswell as the others, so its well overdue! So they will soon be re-homed into the garden into a much much larger pond for them to enjoy themselves in when I get it setup :D

The very first original goldfish I kept from the start is the big white and orange one. Heres a pic of their current home for now (bit of an old picture the setup looks a little different now):

I have also only recently entered into the world of tropical fish and have another second 54 litre tank for them. Ive always thought about getting tropical fish but wanted to make sure I could look after coldwater fish first (seems I went abit wrong there! but trying to put it right currently now I know). My first ever tropical fish consist of:

1 Tuxedo Platy,
1 Galaxy Platy,
4 Guppy Firetails.

Heres a pic of them:

My next plan of action after ive re-homed the goldfish into a nice big pond in the garden is to use their current 54 litre tank to keep even more tropical fish after ive added a heater! :D So soon ill end up with two 54 litre tropical fish tanks and a big coldwater fish pond B-)

Also thinking of getting a nice Dwarf Gourami to add to the tropical tank as a 'centre piece' fish I guess, would this work well in there?

Any comments and advice very welcome, thanks :)

Hi welcome to the forum, you will get lots of useful info just by asking people and looking through past posts

Thanks Steve

Hi there, dwarf gourami should be fine but if you want more than 1 i would get two females coz males can get a little agressive as they are territorial I love fire tailed guppies, i have a mixture of guppies in my tank but my firetail is my favourite.

Brilliant news :D

Yeah the firetail guppies really caught my eye in the fish store so I had to have them, they look fantastic when the lights on really brings out the colour :p

Also I know the coldwater tank is over stocked for now, but, would the tropical tank be over stocked with a dwarf gourami or two added or would this be ok?

thats a shame the reproduce so quickly it would be nice to breed them :)

I have thought about doing this but im sure there'd be alot more maintenance involved with the new fry and a seperate tank for them? Also id end up getting overrun with fry im sure unless I managed to get rid of them quick enough. Any advice on the best way to go about this and control levels etc if I did do this?

you don't actually need a seperate tank as long as u have tall bushy plants in there for them to hide in then its a case of natural selection so u wont be over populated.

Yes but with that many males -and a ration of 1 male to 3 females to avoid pestering that tank will fill up very quickly.

Oh welcome to the forum by the way :hi:
