Hi All,

Ive been into fish keeping now for about 2 and a half years. I used to have a Coldwater tank and recently bought a Tropical tank (275lt) but due to a massive outbreak of Fin Rot & White Spot I lost my entire stock of coldwater fish  Its funny how attached you get to fish isnt it? I was gutted!

I know just have a 275lt Tropical tank with the following stock.

10 x Neon Tetras
2 x Female Guppy
1 x Male Guppy
1 x Clown Plec
1 x oticicols !?! (A Spotted Catfish / Plec)
4 x Amano Shrimp

Was all going well until I had a massive brown algea bloom all over my substrate at the weekend. I use Sand. The tropical tank recently had a complete clear out before the new fish went in so its been up and running for about a month.

Does anybody have any seggestions on how to get rid of the Algea? The tank is planeted but not heavely and the plants look like the stuff that Fish shops sell as "Pond Weed". I am thinking about a UV sterilizer but would like some advice from some pro's before I go spending a lot of money  .

:hi: to the forum. heres a little info on oto's (Otocinclus) if it is one, otos are very good at eating algea, but with the description i don't think what you have is an oto, best bet would be to get a pic up in the pleco section :good:
heres the link OTO's
and also the shrimps should eat the algae

I checked ant it looks like good old "Pets at home" have labelled the fish up wrong... I will take a picture of it if I can and put it up. It has long wiska's if that helps? it may even be a catfish?
