hi guys and gals.i'm steve and i'm relatively new to this.my brothers all kept tanks over the years but tbh i never paid much attention to it but recently i've been getting more and more into it and my wife and i decided to get our own.

a little bit of advice would be great

1. i'm planning on starting off with a jewul rekord 800.has anybody here had any experience with this particular tank.

2. with regards to fishless cycling,is it ok to start planting straight away or should i wait until the cycle is over before i begin planting.(also any reccomendations for types of plants will be greatly appreciated,i know a little bit about plants but not a lot)

3. after my cycling and planting is sorted this is my stocking suggestions.what do you think
10 neons
10 harlequin
2 pleco
2 corys
a siamese algae eaters
and maybe a couple zebra danio

i would like some kind of feature fish like a bn catfish or angelfish but i'm pretty certain my tank will be too small for these

thanks for all your help,
steve

welcome, i have no experience with that particular tank but i do know corys like to be in groups of about 6 and zebra danios are quite fast swimmers so need a decent size tank, im sure someone else will be along to answer the rest of your questions

i was in my lfs and had a chat with the guy there.think i'll just go with the neon tetras, and the harlequins for now.and also an electric blue hap

cant wait to get started :)

Well, welcome to the forum! :good: To start off with your stocking list...The neons and harliquins are ok. Cories like to be in a group of atleast 6 and they need a sandy substrate to protect their barbels. Plecos(common) are a definate NO. They can get up to 2 feet in length. A bristlenose pleco could work. They get 6 - 8 inches. I would stay clear of the siamese algea eaters. I have heard alot of bad things about them harassing other fish. This is just my opinion, I do not own any of these. I couldn't find the dimensions of your tank, but zebra danios are very active fish. They like to zip across the tank and should have atleast a 4 foot tank. Again, depending on the dimensions of the tank, one angelfish could work. As far as plants go, I've heard of others doing a fishless cycle with live plants in the tank, but I wouldn't. I would wait to plant. Some amazon swords would look great. Maybe some crypts and/or vals would look real nice.

you snuck in the post while I was writing mine. Do Not get an electric blue hap if you want a community tank. These are beautiful fish, but not the best at sharing their space. I had 2 in a 30 gallon tank and the one ate the other during the night.

oh no  thats terrible.maybe i'll have to rethink that but they're such a beautiful fish.my tank is 30 gallon its 80cm x35cm x45cm .it may not be deep enough for an angel fish.back to the drawing board for a feature fish
