Hi all im Daz from the UK.

To be honist im totally new to fish keepin and have join up for info an advice. The fish im looking into keep are guppy's as the kid have taken i likeing to them. I have no fish at the moment an have just set my tank up. The tank is only a 27 liter coldwater tank. From what i have read i need a heater. An been told i dont need a air pump/airstone in the tank.

Ive got my tank set up an ive had it up for the past few days with Airstone and pump also a just one of those intank filter system. But no light is this going to be a problem?

Also there are bubbles been left on top of the water caused by the pump but i cant adjust this will this affect the fish?

Thanks for any advise
Daz

:hi: to the forum!

Yes, you do need a heater for guppies, but you don't need an airstone; they do help a little with circulating the water, but your filter should do that.

You need to 'cycle' (grow a colony of beneficial bacteria in your filter) your tank before you add any fish; there are some great articles on how to do this and on the nitrogen cycle in the beginner's resource centre (link is in my sig) or your fish will poison themselves with their own wastes very quickly.

Lights are needed if you want live plants; fish don't 'need' them as such, but it's nicer to have lights so you can se them better.

Your tank is very small, so you can only have 5 or 6 guppies, when the time comes; do make sure you get males only, as you don't have room for them to be breeding.

Good morning and welcome to the forum! :good: If you are looking for information, you've come to the right place. Before you get fish, go to the beginners resource center of this forum and read up on cycling the filter.http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/277264-beginners-resource-center/. Good luck!

Fluttermoth beat me to it!

Hello and welcome to the forum.

I agree with everything fluttermoth says, the last thing you need in a 27ltr tank is a load of fry. Males tend to be nicer too IMO
