i checked on my fish today and everything was perfect, came home from work there the now and lots of fish dead, my water temperature was above the highest reading but wen i felt with my hand was probably between 30-45 degres 4 have died most fry and my 3 mollies still alive i got the water temp down as slowly and gradually as i could with increasing my air filter and taking some water out and replacing with conditioned cold water and added stress coat only thing i could think of at that moment while i was panicing, i think the heater became faulty and wouldnt stop heating the tank :(, don't know what to do at all man im so upset, what shall i say to the pet shop what will happen to the cycle, most of all will my remaining fish survive? im so p***ed off at this, all help needed plz ty

Well you need to get a heater tomorrow and/or heat the room that the tank is in tonight. You can wrap the tank in blankets to conserve warmth if the room cools down. If you have a large tank its better to have two heaters making up the required wattage. If one fails at least the other can do its best to cope.If you dont want to keep adding cold water fill plastic bottles with some ice and cold water and leave them in the tank to bring the temperature down. Its going to be pot luck with your fish.

the heater is out. my room temp is always cosy heat, does the high temp kill my cycle? do the store i got the heater for have to compensate me for the fish that died? honestly heart breaking thing to go through knowing that my fish suffered so badly!! im just sitting here depressed :\ dont know what to do

How long have you had the heater? They usually have a years guarantee on them. I don't think the lfs will compensate for fish lost, they'll probably tell you to contact the manufacturer cos it's covered by guarantee.

Fingers crossed your other fish will be ok, healthy fish will usually survive a temporary temp spike, just keep an eye out for whitespot on the mollies. Is the tank fully cycled? The temp won't damage the cycle so long as you keep your fish stock up. Might be worth buying a heater from ebay or something to keep as a spare.

hey been a few days since this stupid thing happened, 1 guppy was totally swimming upside down and stuff so i put her in my breeder trap isolation thing and see how she would do, shes now swimming around happy as larry eating lots.... keeping a close eye on all the fish for white spot, in total 6 fish died, 3 guppys ( the most beautiful ones ive ever had :( ) 1 tetra and 2 baby fry. survivors 3 mollies 1 adult guppy and about 9 guppy fry.

the fish shop gave me a new heater 2 bottles of stress zyme and stress coat £50 pound worth of fish vouchers. still doesnt compensate for what the fish went through and how i felt. but at least they tried there best.

been checking my parametres and every thing is fine cycle is still going strong with the loss of fish. i'm just feeding them a little more than normal to keep up the amonia until the fry are producing enough to keep the cycle going strong.

so just thought i'd tell you how things went. ty for post too guys.

taylor.
