I have just completed a course of protozin in my tank, however whitspot back on my silver sharks. recently posted Wide Mouthed Shark on Forum. Particular fish now has red streaks through it's fins. thought this may be an isolated condition, however another 2 now show red streaks? Is this a virus. I think iv'e rushed into fishkeeping, Mr no patience and overstocked, put the wrong fish together and basicly created a mini underwater hell on earth where bad fishes go for their sins. Ph7, nitrate and nitrate 0, Amonia 0. Fluval 1000 Neo deep, fluval 4+, eheim profesional filter.

Righty ho, lets see what we can do here.

How big is your tank?
What do you have in it?
Whats your maintainence regieme like?

Are you sure its whitespot? If so, try the old, temp and salt trick, usually works. Do a search and see what comes out.

Red streaked fins can mean that there fin membrane is thinning - a precursor to fin rot amougst other things. However, this is usually a secondary infection to something else.

think you may be slightly overstocked there. is there any chance you can get another tank or return some of the fish.
seems a bit weird that ammonia nitrIte & nitrAte are all 0 being as you have a lot of fish in there, is the plec a common plec. if it is these are basicly sh*t machines that get huge around 18" mark if not bigger.
your fish are probally getting whitespot due to the stress, think the only way you will be able to sort this is either getting another tank or taking some of the fish back to lfs
also i think the red streaks you are seeing on the silver sharks may be septacemia.
i'm sure some1 with more knowledge will tell you better

How many gallons or litres is that, you look well overstocked to me, red streak in the tail can be due to poor water quality, plus septicemia.

Not the writer of this information.
Septicemia

Symptoms:

Fish may have reddening at fin bases, blood streaks throughout the fins and body, small hemorrhages around the eyes. Dull listless behavior and lack of appetite may also be present.

Cause:

Systemic bacterial infection caused by various bacteria, including Aeromonas, Pseudomonas and Vibrio. The illness is often brought on by poor water quality or as a result of parasitic infestations or other infections. These bacteria enter the blood stream and circulate through the tissues causing inflammation and damage. Inflamed blood vessels in the skin and at fin bases stand out. Blood vessel and heart tissue damage cause hemorrhaging and consequently leakage of body fluids into the abdomen, which may lead to Dropsy.

Treatment:

Water conditions must be improved for all fish in the tank, regardless of how many fish are infected. Check your water’s Treat with Kanacyn or Tetracycline as well as with a medicated food if the fish will eat. If parasites are suspected, all the fish in the tank should be treated with antiparasitic medication. Using salt to help restore osmotic balance might be helpful.

"polyester filters changed weekly"

Is that 100% removal and replacement? Thats not a good idea as that will home your benefical bacteria. You don't need to replace them that frequently, just rinse then in your tank water (not tap water) when you do a water change and they'll survive for months.

Im talking about the white filter material at top of filters. Surely you can't reuse this it's boggin after a week.

Ive just tested my tank tonight all stats are 0, including nitrate.

My wife told me that one of the particular plants in my tank (Egeria Densa) Pondweed, Elodea was used in science experiments at her school. This plant is said to produce a lot of oxygen. Could this possibly be the result of the low Nitrate levels?
I intend to take the silver sharks to lfs and re house one of the Pearl G's. Clown Loaches have passed.

Found this link on stocking levels...

Any comments....?
