OK, I was doing a water change on my new tank as it is still cycling its only been set up 2 weeks on Mon and the NITRITE was a bit high.Anyway i turned of the heater and filter. and began to syphon out some water. Went to empty the water heard a loud crack rushed back to discover that the heater was smoking so i quickly removed it before it did any damage to my fish.
My question is how long will my fish be able to live without a heater as i cannot get a replacement untill Sunday. The fish are two male guppies, 2 mollies and a swordtail.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Umm, they'll probably be OK for a while, room temperature can just about count as tropical. But I'd keep an eye on the guppies, they aren't very hardy.

Depends on your ambient room temperature. (geographical location) If you are stuck try heating (not boiling) some water in a kettle and fill some plastic 2ltr lemonade bottles and float them in your tank. Keep a check on the temperature. I hasten to add that this is only a temporary measure to get you through.

Some time during summer I dont even use heater at all. My room temperature is already enought to heat those water.

Thanks, just checked thermometer and water temp is about 25 degrees hopefully they will be ok untill sunday, im working tomorrow so cant get a new heater untill then. Oh and the guppies shoud be ok because my mum has got 14 in a tank that dosnt have a heater and the are all fine.

You shouldn't have a problem at all, especially if you're in a place where it's now summer.
