earlier today i cleaned one of my tanks, usual 30% water change. Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, nitrate 10.

100L tank been established for quite a wile now

stocking is 4 BN plecs + fry, fed on mainly fresh fruit and never left in for more than 12hrs

i noticed a moment ago that there are lots of white specs on the glass, after closer inspection they look like very very small white worms wriggling about, hundreds of them all over the glass and floating around the tank, all fish seem healthy and ok at the mo including the fry

any ideas or suggestions, im very worried as this is one of my breeding tanks

please anyone advive or help

Just gravel vacs help to get rid of them.
Ive had them before now but only a few.

I've had this happen before. I just turn the heat up a little ( 82 degree's) and reduce feeding. I also take an algea pad and scrape off whatever i can. They will eventually disapper.

just turned the temperature up to 28 and cleaned all of the glass as best as i can, i vaced the gravel earlier and did a thorough job of it so just got to wait and see what its like tomorrow i spose, is it likely to affect the bristle nose babys ????

It can be a problem if you are infested with them.
There is meds but I would only use them as a last resort.

will see what its like tomorrow, just rinsed the filter out in tank water and done a 10% water changes.... fingers crosses with the temp raised and the glass cleaned of them it wont be a prob.

last thing i want is to treat with meds because of all the fry

Good Luck.

got home from work today and 99% of my baby plecs are now dead. They were fine last night so this is very sudden. Dad was still in his cave fanning and looking after the dead babys :(

tank reading last night were
ammonia 0
nitrite 0
nitrate 10

tank readings now are exactly the same

i am absolutely gutted to say the least, ive transfered the remaining live fry to a fry trap in another established tank but dont hold any hopes for them and am now very worried about the 4 adult plecs left in the tank, they all seem fine but something has to be wrong for the fry to die off

would it be possible that the Planaria Worms are the cause of the fry deaths ???? there arent as many as there were yesterday in the tank bt they are still present

:-( :-( :-( :-( :-(

Yes it same as flukes fry are more prone to them sounds like they have gotten into the gills if the tanks infested with them.

thanks wilder, typical the tank has been absolutely fine untill the fry started to hatch

are the worms likely to be a problem in the established tank i transfered the fry to???? its a 240L but some of the worms must have been transfered with the fry

I would leave the fish where they are for now.
I think I would use a med if the tank is infested with them and fry have died.
You can only half dose with fry though.

the remaining fry wont make it so i will use some meds on the tank, any suggestions on which med would be best to use?
