I am close to buying a Fluval FX5 for my Rio 400. But this filter has caught my eye on eBay.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2000L-Aquarium-Fish-Tank-External-Canister-Filter-HW304-/380319393363?pt=UK_Pet_Supplies_Fish&hash=item588ccd6653#ht_3224wt_911

Now on paper, it should more than suffice for my tank, but I'm not sure if I should "cheap it" on the filtration. Anyone have one of these? I know the fx5 is an amazing filter but its also 3x as expensive.

Thanks

that is a AllPondSolution filter, or Sunsun externals filter. It is cheaper than the APS found here Looks to me like someone else has caught on that importing Sunsun filters can make you some money. I'm running the 1000lph on my main tank and its going great guns. Its quiet, the flow remains good. :good:

Yeah noticed APS sell them also, this guy seems to be undercutting them lol. I think I'll go with the cheap one, if the flows good, then the filter is only as good as the media you put in it I guess. Is it nice and easy to maintain? Well constructed etc?

I've got the APS ones; one of the 1400l and two of the 2000l and am very happy with them.

Only (slight) downside is the handles on the media baskets are a bit flimsy, so be very gentle with them, and you MUST fit at least the sleeve for the UV light, even if you're not going to use it, as they leak if you don't.

But I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one.

I have and you do get what you pay for on build. The filter as said does a great job, but be rough with the baskets and they will snap. Would defo get another one dont let it put you off just dont expect a solid bullet proof build thats all

good filters but i would always pay the bit extra and buy from APS as there service is fantastic although im running an fx5 and could never fault it its a beast
