Please use caution with the following:

Iwas recently in a situation that called for a heater, and quick !
I used a small space heater in the general area and was able to warm up the tank safely. Obviously precautionary measures needed to be taken to not get the glass hot, and of course I had to check a lot before I felt safe, but by just keeping it pointed in the general direction the water warmed up .

I would recommend that all tropical tanks have a heater/ thermostat. Even if it only comes on once a month it is worth the expense. I only use eheim after years of trialing heater/ thermostats these seem to be the most reliable.

A good quality heater is one of the equipment that is pretty much essential for all aquariums.

Even if you live in warm climates it is still worth having as it can get cold during the nights and if you get cold winters then there’s no excuse for not having a heater.

As already mentioned, good heaters will only come on when it’s required when the tank water gets below a certain temperature.

Of course there are exception such as having cold water species that don’t specifically require heated water but for most tropical species, they all have their water temperature care requirements.

Thanks for the advice about heaters. I put them in my main tanks but I had to set up a small fry grow out rank (yay!) and a DIY bucket bubbler for medication treatment and a QT tank for new fish all in a very short period of time.
I live in Texas and we had a sudden large temperature drop and I dont have central air/heat so I ended up putting these tanks in the same area of small room and it worked out fine.
Needless to say I set up the heaters in my main tanks the same day!
The thing is now the weather warmed up again!!! Texas ... :fun:
