Heating and filtration for a 345gal tank

thats great news, you better get some pictures of it as soon as something happens!

i'll agree with CFC on this one, thats very expensive for a sump.

I paid £90 for my 30x15x15 custom built sump which i made the specs for, although I had to buy my plumbing separately which was about 60/70 quids worth in the end.

if there supplying eith a expensive media it might allow that kind of price but other wise......

also i can't stress how much i recomend Jager heaters. There biggest 300W heaters are rated at 220 gallons(UK!) they are very good value for money.

I will try and see if i can find any jager heaters then as it will be more convinient to have just 2 heaters instead of 4, i will definatly start getting pics as soon as the first peice of glass arives through my door heh :) !
Now all i need to get sorted is the lighting and hood for the tank :flex: ! But i am very happy i have even got this far, up until now it seemed i would never get my tank by the end of the year but now things are realy looking up  .
What sort of lighting/what brand does everyone here use for their tanks? What would be good lighting for growing plants for  ? Thankyou for all your help so far everyone :D

i reakon 6 evenly spaced metal halides would do the job for growing plants well for that.

i'm not sure which power ones you should go for though!.

At 2 feet deep, I'd say at least 150W (I have them on my 6x2x2)

Possibly even 250W, though you'd need a serious amount of CO2 and micro/macro nutirent fertilisation to prevent algae growth.

Getting good plant growth with a sump is not the easiest of things. And make sure they install durso stanpipes and not just a hole or a pipe (unless you like the sound of toilet flushing 24/7...)

what are "durso stanpipes"? how are they different from just a pipe and a hole?

a durso standpipe is your ticket to a silent sumped system.

it's a hard to explain but a durso standpipe is a few fittings put together in such away it limits the ammount of oxygen the water draws through the pipe work, thus silenting the gurgling and my warrant that higher price for the filtration if there inclduing 2 stand pipes.

Check out "durso standpipe" on the web.

It costs about £20 at the most to build on top of a bulkhead.

It puts the intake for the drainage below the water level.

You can make out the water level below.
