I've found over the course of my fish keeping that the heat really doesn't spread evenly throughout my tanks with the exception of the 44g which has an internal hydor ekip350 (filter/heater) running along with the big external filter. I'd love to go spend a couple of hundred on a top notch eheim heater/filter job but I simply don't have the money. Any thoughts about my best options here? Am watching things on ebay as ever but it's pretty unlikely I'll get a decent larger filter/heater combo for a cheap price. Would using two heaters work better then one and placing them in the outlet pipes flow to help spread the heat around work best? And what wattage?
Hope that makes some sense!
Hugs,
P.

I run two heaters, one at each end and it works fine. Having the heater in good water flow is important too (although I wouldn't necessarily put it right at the outlet of the filter).

for a 100 gallon I'd have thougth 2 heaters of 200W each should do it.

I would agree two 200w is a better option than one 300w. I have both these scenarios in my two larger aquariums.

if you run an airstone in your tank place the heater within the bubble stream. this will dissipate the heat evenly through out the tank via convection.
